Not Tempting Fate...

It’s been a horrible week, all idea of exercise has gone completely out of the window as my husband has been ill & had to be rushed to hospital. Thankfully he is now home and on the mend but work has to be done, and family and home have to be looked after as well as poorly hubby. Add to that driving to and from hospital in the middle of the night making my back muscles tense and therefore my back/hip worse, I was beginning to feel as I did before I started running - fat, old and decrepit. I was beginning to wonder if I’d dreamed getting fit again. But tonight...somehow...it started to feel better, so I grabbed the moment, dipped my toe in...

My first ever evening run. A beautiful, cool summer’s evening. I took it very slowly. I don’t like going slow but if I’m ever going to run regularly again I need to show some mental restraint. 2 miles completed. I did run longer than I intended but it was so nice I didn’t really want to stop, but I knew I had to sooner rather than later. Now, I feel so much better. I have done something for myself for the first time this week, and I came home to a cup of tea made by my lovely husband.

Fingers crossed I feel ok tomorrow. I haven’t been able to book any physio or osteopath appointments because life has just got in the way this week. Let’s hope my body gives my brain a break with this one! Mentally I really needed to do this run!

I really don’t think I can stop running now, this week has proved my brain needs it as much as my body!!

Oh yes, whilst I’m here, meet my wonderful shoes - Bert & Ernie 😁

Glad you were able to get back out there! Longest day as well - it was lovely light here at 10pm, which is Bert which is Ernie? - happy colours

I get mixed up, they are nearly identical twins 🤣 left is Bert, right is Ernie I think. I know when I get it wrong because the laces come undone 😁

So sorry to hear about your husband - I hope he is doing ok now. All that stress making your back muscles tense up ain't good, but I'm so glad you managed a sneaky gentle run and that it felt good! I hope your body forgives you and that you can gently build on that.

I know what you mean about needing it mentally - I really really wanted to run this evening after a bit of a stressful day at work, but my back is starting to feel quite sore (apparently this is a Good Sign so I'm trying to feel positive about it) and I don't want to risk prolonging my time away from running - so I've settled for reading all about everyone else's runs instead :-)

Take care!

Yes, sore is good, I know that feeling. You’ll be ok, I’ve found the breathing is still good it’s just the muscles that tire quicker, and you can build that back up again.

You take care too, it sound like you’re making good progress there 👍🤞

That's extra reassuring, on several fronts, so thank you!
