Struggling with running due to knee injuries - running shoe advice sought!

Hi all, first time poster here!

Currently on W5R2, which I've already attempted once, but ended up only managing 17 mins. Going to have another go this week, but my issue is not down to my general fitness - I don't tend to get exhausted in my upper body, and my breathing is consistent - it's more my legs.

I've always suffered with bad knees since a teenager, and have had operations in the past to correct them. I've also had issues with my ankles and shins (likely as an offset) and I've had a more recent issue with my left foot and being able to apply pressure with my big toe. It's VERY painful and the Doctors haven't yet worked out what it is and how to remedy it. So in all my running, I have to fight through the pain, but I'm managing it... up until now.

So, to help me with my running I can only assume that (aside from more medication) a new pair of running shoes would help. Ideally something very cushioned I guess? I tend to run on paths around our housing estate and through the park, so the terrain is typically quite hard. My Adidas trainers aren't quite cutting the mustard and I'd like to do what I can to support my feet.

I'm just struggling a little bit at the moment and don't want to stop running, and I'm general a fairly fit person (aside from my legs). I'm 6ft and my weight is fine and I eat healthily, it's just my damned legs!

ANY help or advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

(Oh, and I'm a Vitality Member so get 50% off at Sweatshop FYI)

Hi Benjumanji, very well done for getting this far with the program.😀

I can’t comment on the pain because I’m not qualified to do so, but it would be sensible to check with a sports physio or dr.

Good running shoes are really helpful. The usual advice is to go to a specialist shop that offers gait analysis & see what type of shoes they advise. I had grizzling knees before getting my running shoes & that improved quite quickly once I had them. Good luck! 😃

Thanks for the reply! I think I might need to do exactly what you're suggesting, and have the right shoes chosen for me.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! :)

I’m just over 6ft and very slim but my knee was my tormentor until the fine folk from a sports shop analysed my gait, picked my shoes and custom made my insoles. For nearly two years my knee has been happily quiet!

Good luck!

Thank you, I'll be looking into that for sure now. Great to know it's worked for others!
