My knees are hurting and the muscles around them - will this ease in time

I am 65, overweight and haven't run for many years. My knees are hurting after week 1. Is this normal
Very normal unfortunately! I tried a knee sleeve but not sure it did anything. I also took plenty of ibuprofen and iced 3 times a day.
Tricky one. Depends on the the severity of the pain. A bit of soreness may be fine. (I was very conscious of knee twinges for the first couple of weeks.) If you're wearing proper trainers that fit your type of gait then you shouldn't be in any real pain. If it continues (or happens while you're exercising or really hampers your mobility) it's definitely worth finding your local sports physio guru and getting it checked. May just be other muscles and ligaments that need strengthening but they'll advise you.
But RICE and Ibuprofen are always good options. It's always tempting to overdo things at first. When I was last injured I did a couple of Week 0s - running for 30 seconds and walking for 90 - before I got into W1. I found that helped a lot.

PRICE or MICE..... move it... don't rest it... mobility can help...
Well done!
Strengthening may help as well as the advice above. Here are some ideas:
Yep.. the only answer is exercises....

Then... slow and steady, land lightly and relax.
If the pain persists and you will recognise real pain as opposed to the normal aches and pains many get as the start C25K.. get it checked out..never run through pain and do not run after taking painkillers.. they only mask pain and the injury, if there is one, could become worse...
I think the answer is in the question; of course your body will complain about the exercise! Hurting is ok but pain is not. Only you can know....
Well done. You can do it. I am 75 years old and I graduated a few weeks ago. I feel much better for running again in mind and body. On On we can all do it!
