Slow down and slow down again. Also stick to this forum like glue and you’ll be fine. It’s a fabulous place to hang out!

Thank you for the breathing advice! I think there is a tendency to tense up and ‘fight’ for breath if you are not relaxed x

Welcome! And congrats on starting. I've only completed 3 weeks and my advice is the same as above. Go slowly. Oh, and remember to breathe 😀 You'll be great. Keep posting here, there is so much good advice from those who have gone through the weeks.

Hello and welcome. I’m am 60 and have never run before. By sticking to the programme you will amaze yourself and others on what you can achieve. The 60 seconds runs at week 1 seemed tough at the start but I am now on 28 mins. Start slow and have fun.

Wow thanks everyone! I have just completed week 3 but the thought of running for 5 minutes without stopping in week 4 is a bit daunting 😮 taking it slow seems like very good advice! Thanks again for all the positive advice x

Slow down. And then slow down a bit more. Believe in yourself. Hang out on here and find some virtual chums at the same stage. Remember that it's not a race and that every run (even if it's a shambly walk) is a milestone passed towards a happier healthier you. Oh and slow down again :-)

Well done for starting this programme. I’ve just graduated at almost 65. Don’t be put off by whats coming in the next week, the programme is preparing you for it. Slow really does work. 😀

I’m 64 and started 3 weeks ago. Just completed a charity 5k with my C2 5K trainer in my ear. I would advise listening to your body and following the plan week by week . I thought I would never run and I did 5 k yesterday.

Listen to your body. Bit of cliché but it's important as your body tells you when you've done too much.

I running the race for life and haven't run for ages. I was tempted to try to skip some of the runs especially at the beginning but I didn't as I knew that I needed to trust the program. It works - I'm in week 8 and feeling great. Keep to the plan, slow down if you need to and most of all have Fun!!!

How is it going, I have just started at 60, never having run before?

Ang62 profile image

Hi Lizzy! It has gone really well much better than I ever expected. I graduated about 4 weeks ago. Since then have tried to get out three times a week. I have managed 5k a couple of times but I am more comfortable at 4K (especially with the heat we have been having!). I am focusing now on improving my pace. I am quite slow ~9 minutes per kilometre. Really enjoying the health benefits - I haven’t lost much weight, which I would like to do, but I need to look at my diet more for that. Good luck with your ‘journey’ - take it very slowly at first, make sure you take rest days in between runs, and you will be fine! Lots of support here and lots of good advice from experienced runners. Happy running!! 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ 😊
