W3R1 Knee Pain

I’m doing my W3R1 tomorrow but my knees have been in pain for the past week. I don’t want to push it and injure myself but I really don’t want to slow down my progress. I’ve been elevating them and doing some stretches. I’m thinking it’s most likely my legs trying to get used to running 😂 Did anyone else have the same problem and did it get better? Any tips would be appreciated.

You should stop running for now and rest, never run through any pain, hopefully it will pass soon..

There are some knee stretches on the NHS site hopefully someone will send a link but this may help.

Knee pain can be die to ITBS or to tight hams and quads I think so lots of loosing them up. I have a knee brace thing I run with which has helped significantly with stretching, which I got from amazon. Lots of rest too and run on grass. Also make sure you have gait analysis and good trainers! X

Try these..if the knees are still painful..then stretches and exercise until they feel easier.

As long as your shoes are correct, and you are trying to land lightly you should be fine...

Check out the info on gait analysis and shoes in the Newbie post.

Hope it sorts soon and then keep it slow and steady :)

Yes both knees one after the other. Ice three times a day and elevate. Against advice on here, I took ibuprofen an hour before runs and ran through it. They sorted themselves out in a week or so. That’s your choice if you take the same risk as me though.

Thanks everyone. My knees seemed less painful this morning so did my w3r1, I took it very very slow 😂 but managed it. I’m going to get some proper shoes sorted this week and continue with knee exercises.
