Stiff calves and achilles?

So run 2, week 1 and mid run my calves and achilles went stiff and it was a challenge to finish the run.

What’s the cause? Bad shoes? Running technique? Just a bad day?

Check this post out... there is a lot of useful advice for Newbies, there. The right shoes and socks too, are essential. Warm up really well and stretch after each and every run.

Then take it very steadily and slowly :)

On the note of warming up - do you think the five minute warm up is long enough? I've heard/read such conflicting advice.

I take longer..I have a morning routine before I leave home...and my warm up walks are brisk and can vary from 5 mins to 15...we are all different..😊

That's true! I'm just worried about aggravating my calf again & getting incapacitated having just started again.

Take it slowly and stretch gently after each run..a roller used correctly may help loosen those calf muscles..

Be sure to stretch them after every session.

I had used 10 minute warm-ups as a beginner, now I regularly use 1 mile jogs as a warm-up.

Thanks Oldfloss, I did read the guide and I didn't have this issue on my first run so was wondering if I started doing something wrong already :-D
