It’s about time...........

New to this. I’m a happy, “educated”, 16 stone, late forties, eat too much, drink too much, ticking coronary/stroke time-bomb! I’ve spent the last 15 years taking zero responsibility for my health and need to change. I’m in a good place emotionally, work-wise etc and just need to get a grip on what I eat/drink and to get as fit, if not fitter than I was 15 years ago. Any tips most welcome!

Just do C25K as a starter. There is not a better way to start the exercise habit than this brilliant training plan.

Read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... for basic advice, follow the instructions and change your life for good.

Thanks. That’s the plan! I suspect motivation will be the challenge in this world of instant gratification!!

Motivation has to come from you.

For me it was not wanting to end up like so many of my peers who were entering their sixties with life limiting conditions which mostly came about from inactivity in combination with poor diet. It really paid off for me when four years after starting running and being fitter than ever in my life, at the age of 61, I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer.

Eight months later that fitness has seen me through the bulk of my treatment without any serious side effects. My GP and oncologist both agree that my fitness has made all the difference.

You never know when a critical illness is going to strike.

Do it because you can.

After being a school 100m sprinter I got arthritis in my teens. My running days were over I thought. I had a hip replacement 6 years ago. 2 years after I was told I had diabetes T2. I will not be beaten!!! I am on Week 5 run 2 on Tuesday. YOU can do this Grranite!! It’s so rewarding at each stage. At run 1 week 1 you are doing better than the people sat on the couch thinking about doing it. Keep us informed. X

Keep your pace slow, slower, slowest. Don't try going full pelt because you'll wear yourself out before you get started and might end up discouraging yourself. The point is to finish, not break the land speed record.

Having some tunes that'll get you moving helps too

Go for it. C25K is a great place to start. I’m mid forties and have never been any good at sport so done very little since school. Tried running in my twenties for about a week and gave up (had no idea what I was doing and suspect went too fast)

I’m eight weeks in now and I can run 28 mins without stopping. I even kept it to one beer last night as I wanted to get out for my run this morning and didn’t want to be dehydrated. Never thought either of those thing would happen.

Enjoy and let us know how you get on 😀

You could be my twin! Good luck with it. I think I’ve finally accepted that I’m no longer the 24 yr old eat/drink as I please that I once was. Go well!
