Addictive Personality

Mostly, having an addictive personality is a curse. I love to have a drink at the weekends, I used to smoke 15-20 cigarettes a day for years until my son asked me to try and quit (I’ve not smoked for 4years now) and I was at my heaviest weight last year because of my love of food. I never dabbled in hard drugs as I was afraid of liking it too much and I’ve never gambled for fear of going too far... when I get into something, I put everything into it.. the good thing about having an addictive personality is that I managed to lose 30kg (4.5st) in 9 months because eating healthy and taking up running has become my new obsession. I’m happy, fit and healthy and I’m so so grateful for being introduced the C25K by a work colleague of mine. She’s left the company now so she will never know how much she’s helped me.

I’ve actually completed C25K but I’m still running 3 times a week. I love it so much! Thanks 😊

Congratulations on graduating from C25K, no Graduate next to your username, tell the administrators that you have graduated, you will then see the word Graduate next to your username.

Ok... there’s a post and a half! Where to start with the congratulations here? 4 smoke free years? Drinking less? Breaking the food habit? Losing the weight? Doing this here running thing? Being a happier, fitter, healthier you? Yeah... that’s all great and all... but I think that there’s that other thing... making that son of yours proud, showing him the way to live, and at the same time doing something that will mean you’re likely to be around a few more years for him. That’s something to be very proud of... and that addictive personality now has something worthy of being addicted too. Your work colleague there, well... she probably needed to go elsewhere and find another one like you to gently point in the right direction... and maybe she will be at the same parkrun, or in the same event one day... and you may not get to speak, you may pass each other on the run, but she’ll see you and she’ll smile that night even more because of it.

Happy running.

Yes, my son is proud. He was 9yrs old when he asked me to quit and he’s 13 now. I do feel lucky.. although I have asked him to come running with me and he’s declined. Ha ha.

Thanks for your reply. Those are really kind words. I wasn’t expecting this much feedback from my post so I’m slightly overwhelmed. ❤️

Brilliant, huge well done! I too have an addictive personality. Having been on the IC a while I've taken up cycling in lieu of running and become a bit obsessed by it! Cycling on holiday recently I was thinking how lucky I was to be addicted to two such healthy things 😂

That's awesome. Really well done.

I know I drink far too much, but I already have a desire to do something about that so I can keep running on a morning.

Your son must be so happy too. If he asked you to give up smoking, he must have been seriously worried about your health. To see you in such good shape now must mean the world to him.

Such an inspirational post, thank you for sharing.

Very well done AR, I think it may be time to change the user name! 😀

After you've consolidated for a few weeks it sounds like Juju's magic 10K plan may be for you...there's lots of info over on the Bridge to 10K forum, and a new batch are due to start it in November.

Enjoy 🏃‍♀️👍

That’s a great post. I need to be eating a more consistently good diet. I’d say I eat healthy 70% of the time but could do better!

Just checked this out after reading about your “friend”. Is he maybe a little bit jealous and insecure at what you have achieved so quickly. OMG you are inspiring for so many people on here. You go enjoy every run and your half marathon. X
