So important to warm-up

Can I just remind new runners to please warm-up your leg muscles thoroughly! I thought I was doing everything right by buying the right trainers, stretching on my rest days and by walking briskly for five minutes or so before a run, but unfortunately it appears this wasn’t enough for me (according to my Physio). Three months ago I was just about to start Week 9 and without warning I had a very painful calf tear and haven’t run since. What a nightmare it’s been....x-rays, physio appointments, not to mention the pain! Please warm up properly!

You say you were about to start W9 when you had the calf tear... were you actually running when it happened?

I also realised that the 5min walk was not enough of a warm up for me ,

Later rather than sooner .

Got to wk4 problem started

W5/1 I now know I need to stretch dynamically plus I need to focus on my TFL

I’m a put the door and set off guy but my first 2km is always the slowest I jog slower than my walk and gradually get to my run pace while out and stretch on my return home

Never stretch a cold muscle I just do a few leg kicks and dynamics while putting on my gear then I’m off

I didn’t realise either, only found out reading on here at week 3. Does make the whole run take a lot longer factoring in warm up plus a shower after! But I reckon that’s worth it. Really sorry to hear you’ve been injured. Sounds like you’re in good hands. Thanks for this warning message😊
