Setting up Your Own 5k?

How possible is it to set up your own 5k fundraising run? There’s a small charity in Thailand called The Sound of Animals that rescues dogs from the dog meat trade. The man who runs it is doing some serious work rescuing and rehabilitating dogs who have suffered serious torture; I’d like to raise as much money as I can for this organisation and encourage others to do so too. Is it possible to set up my own 5k run specifically for this charity? What things might I have to pay for and consider while doing this? Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

Safety issues, risk assessment and maybe public liability insurance as a starter I guess. Governance regards the monies raised, not sure if you might need some kind of license🤔

Others will be along shortly with other elements Im sure.

Good luck👍🏼

By Googling " how to set up a charity run" I found this in one minute. Although this is a US based site, most of the organisational aspects would be similar in the UK, but legally it may differ.

You could contact some of the virtual run organisations, who I am sure could help. If you contacted your charity they might have experience of this sort of thing.

I think that your motivation is laudable, but the effort vs reward is not worth it. The PTA of our local school organise an annual 10km event. It gets about 300 entrants, we pay £14 to enter, and it requires council notification regarding a road closure, St Johns ambulance, a team of 20 marshalls, liaison with Run Britain, creation of a hosting website, purchasing running numbers and timing equipment, signing up corporate sponsors. School profits about £1500.

You could save hours of heartache and just sign up for a 10km run, push hard on JustGiving website and raise the same money.

At this time of year, have a look at easyfundraising.org.uk, sign up and let all your family & friends know.

I applaud your aim and hope you get some good ideas for ways to raise money to help dogs in Thailand. It is no credit to humanity the way that dogs and other animals are mistreated all over the world including the UK. Very best wishes from me.
