Hi Everyone,

My faithful iPod Nano died on me and I loved it for running, so small. So now have to use my bulky phone to listen to music.

Looking for some suggestions for another small compact MP3 or similar that plays music and tracks fitness

Many thanks !

If the bulky phone is an iPhone then how about the Apple Watch Series 3?

I hope your Mo Farah...

I have one, and the battery is atrocious! A 5km run in the morning means the battery wont last the rest of the day!

Hardly - I must be about three times the size of him!

Mine comes off charge at 5.45am on a "run" day and then I wear it all day and when I put it back on charge at bed-time (10.30ish) then it's down to about 70%. It's fair to say that I don't listen to music through it when on a run but I do track my run with it.

A friend did have a Series 2 and he says that the battery performance of the Series 3 is much better.

Hmmm - im wondering if there is a problem with mine then, as i put mine on around 7am, use it pretty sparingly throughout the day, track a 5km with it, and its down to 20% or so...

I think a trip to the Apple Store is in order!

I would say so - just looked at mine and it's down to 88% at this moment and I ran this morning.

Mines at 68% and i have done nothing all day!

My friend has one it’s a bit heavy and masculine I felt ?

It is brilliant - but not ideal for running!

If your Nano is still under guarantee then Apple will replace it with a brand new one. This happened to me and I took it to an Appple store with the intention of getting it repaired. But then they said they'd give me a new one!

You can only do it once but hey ho definitely worth it 🙂

Hi yes unfortunately it isn’t. Only had it 3 years and the screen just gone blank. So disappointed and now this model is discontinued. That’s why I am looking for an alternative....

Mine was about three years old too when it "went" exactly like yours. Just a blank screen and nothing. That's why I was taken aback when they said they'd replace it. Might be worth taking it to an Apple Store and trying. They can only say no.

Oh I wish I had had such success. I took it to two Apple stores and they said they could send it back for me and they would replace but it would cost me THB 5300 a new one is THB5900 ! And now it’s discontued. I didn’t take out any extra insurance when I bought and they said the warranty had expired 😢😢

So had to throw it

Or bung your iphone in an arm holder. I do that with my google PixelXL, which is pretty big, and it works a treat. Room for cards, keys and cash in there too.

We don't all want loads of gadgets to worry about and charge. The simplest solution for you is to buy a simple running belt (about £10 in UK). That'll take your phone, some tissues, your house keys - everything that you need for a run. Then use the phone for music and tracking your runs, and spend the £90 that you saved by not buying another gadget on new trainers, or some winter running gear :-)

Note: Don't be tempted to buy a running-watch-with-music-playback (I'm thinking of you, tomtom) unless you are 100% wizzy on technical gadgets: it is a pain to get the running music from your cloud service onto the watch).

Thanks yes I agree it may be the best solution. I do feel huge resistance to buying another MP3 , and it has become so technical even to chose the right thing!! I don’t need it to sing and dance and synchronize my calls or messages. Running is my time away from all that !! 😉 Even now when o use my phone for music I put it on airplane mode so nothing interferes !!

I had the same problem a few months ago. Mine was ancient and they do still have one small one but it's got no clip so still needs a pocket.

I took My old one into a shop. Made an appointment and they fixed it. Better still, a young man who looked about 12 fixed it without once patronising this 55 year old woman. I really didn't think they would be able to, but it took about 5 minutes so worth a try.

I love my Sony MP3 player. It’s ancient but fab. No fitness tracker though

Garmin f10 is cheapest but works well up to three hours of running
