Outdoor ouch

After 4 weeks on the treadmill, I ventured out into the sunlight on Saturday morning and did W5D1 - my first outdoor run. Now, two days later, I still feel like I have had a knife stuck into the front of both my thighs! Is it the cold weather to blame?

I find that running on treadmill is easier than running outside as the ground automatically moves underneath where when running outside you have to create the force to move hence the sore muscles, take it easy for day or 2

Inside and outside are so different...it can be very tricky to transition to the outdoors.

On a treadmill, the pace, distance and incline is available and adjustable.Indoor runs are mainly in a controlled environment. When you head outside, there are a lot of variables— weather, wind, elevation, and surface type...no two runs, even on the same route, are the same.

So...start slowly, maybe think about your route too... nothing too challenging surface wise.

Running on pavements only, can be hard on your legs, try grass or bridle path or dirt track...!Running on soft surfaces is easier on your body ...although more challenging in some ways.

Stretching after every run and some exercises on rest days too, could help.

I had a problem like that so I got one of the trainers at the gym to assess my running style and then we made some changes. It sorted it out for me.

Thanks all. After 3 days rest I was back to normal. Back on the treadmill now - can’t stand the cold weather!
