Burning soles....anyone?

Just finished Week 6 Run 2 in my brand new gait-assessed Brooks Ghost 10! Guess what no calf pain! Instead I have now developed a different problem....BURNING FEET!!! The trainers themselves were very comfortable, but I’ve never had this burning soreness on the soles of my feet before....it was so acutely painful! I wore proper running socks too so I’ve no idea where this has come from. I think I might try them without socks for the next longer run, but at the moment I’m feeling so cheesed-off with the continuous pain issues.

Go back to the shop. I got Mizuno Wave Riders and they are like running on air, no pain at all. Im not suggesting them for you necessarily, but I dont think the Brroks should be doing that. When I had my gait tested, we narrowed it down to the Brooks Ghosts and the shoes I actually got. I found the toe box on the Ghosts too roomy, and I think that could cause friction resulting in sore feet. My daughter got the Ghosts and they are great for her, but her feet are a tad wider than mine.

God I hope it’s not the Brooks I paid an arm and a leg for them! They seem so comfortable and supportive how could they be causing friction? Would they actually change them though now I’ve worn them outside?

Are you tying them up too tight?

I think they have to if they assessed your gait and recommnded them. Hopefullyit isnt the shoes, or youre lacing too tightly as suggested above. Might be worth going back and getting them to look things over anyway.

Thanks.....think I might try to lace them a different way leaving a slight gap over the top of my foot where the burning is worse and see if it helps!

I have the same trainers and had the same issue. I relaced mine on a straight across method rather than the crossing and the burning of my soles went away!

I also cant run in running socks, the ones I bought had a very subtle ribbing around the top and under the arch of my foot. Made my feet go tingly and numb!

Love the trainers and really don’t want to return them. Going to change the lacing and ditch the socks for my next run on Thursday! 🤞

Yes try different lacing, but there are so many types of running sock you could also try a different pair and see how you get on. Hope you can sort it.

The burning sensation encountered could be due to friction, but it could also be due to the material and the thickness of the running socks themselves.

Insufficient room in the front of the trainer, caused by wearing socks that are too thick, can become just as uncomfortable as having too much room. If running later in the day, consider that your feet will have swelled slightly due to the warmth provided by pre-run socks and footwear, for example.

As such, if running socks are too thick, the inability of sweat and perspiration to disperse effectively can result in irritation of the skin as the feet become uncomfortably warm. I've often found double layer and cushioned socks to be the worst offenders.

To reduce friction, however, consider purchasing an anti-chafing stick, such as BodyGlide (also good for use when wearing less sensible footwear), applying it to areas of skin that are prone to discomfort, rubbing and blistering. Until you do buy one, Vaseline should also be considered.

I use vaseline on my feet for my longer runs (under my socks) to cut down on friction as I suffered with terrible rubbing and blisters. The vaseline works wonders. But you may want to give your feet a couple of extra rest days before you run again otherwise it may just exacerbate the rubbing. Good luck.
