Hello lovely running folk

Knowing I had to run for 28 minutes for the first time today, I did two things: 1) I didn't dwell on the time increase AT ALL 2) I had a plan!

The plan was distraction. This involves a slightly new route through the park I used to run in the mornings in the summer, before the darkness set in. (Weekdays I now have to run the streets). But able to set out a little later in the weekend, it was off to the park I ran.

It was good to run on grass cross country again, and I even ventured into the woods a bit (though got scared and turned back after 5 mins!) Had forgotten it can be a little hilly in this park, and got a slightly harder workout as a result. Puff, pant, went so slow it was pretty much walking pace! Last 5 minutes and I headed out of the park and onto the streets back home. Was really surprised when Jo said "time up!" For the first time ever I reckon I could have run a couple more minutes! Which is handy, as next week is 30 minute runs!

The sky was blue, it was warm, and I ran with the squirrels. Bliss.

Hope you all have lovely Sundays.

Well done on your run - I think mixing up routes always helps mentally and it is so beautiful running at this time of year.πŸ™‚

Great to hear. I'm planning my three runs for week 7 in different areas for exactly the same reason. It really helps to change things around. Good luck for the rest of week 8.

Thank you, Oldfloss. 😊

HOW HAVE I MISSED YOUR POST AGAIN??!

Really well done, sounds like the perfect run to me, and you're certainly doing really well mentally. I'm proud of you! And why I'm telling you this I don't know, because you already know, but don't worry about your speed at all. The goal is simply to run for half an hour 3 times, and half an hour is half an hour no matter what speed you do. They should really rename it couch to 30 minutes I think!

It's really encouraging to know that week 8 is do-able. I thought it probably would be, but encouragement is always good.

Anyway, back to work for me. Well done, as always. I never doubt you! Have a good day :)

I DON'T KNOW, NEIL! BUT COULD YOU STOP SHOUTING AT ME? (But seriously, you don't get an email when I post, followed by a host of angels playing a fanfare? That's what I get when you complete a run, did you not set your account up for the host of angels? Tsk. Rookie mistake.

And thank you for your belief in me and your support and encouragement. Always appreciated, even next day. :-)

How is your knee faring? Are you doing the exercises on your rest day?

I never doubt you, too. Week 8 cannot wait to meet you!

Yeah, sorry, I must have missed the tickbox for that one :) Promise it won't happen again!!

Thanks for asking about my knee. My knee is very nearly better, but still a little twingy, and it's annoying me. I was doing so much better before this, and to be honest it's slowing my progress somewhat and taking some of the enjoyment. I feel I should give it a rest for tomorrow as well, which means I won't have run since Saturday :( All this just when I was getting in to the longer runs too. So - I suspect Wednesday morning it is, to give myself a decent recovery period.

Regarding ye olde knee exercises. I've not done those specifically, but I have been going through the stretchy stuff. I've been trying to keep from doing anything too intense, but I promise I shall start these and report back!! I know you'll nag me if I don't :D

Right - I'd better go and do some more work. Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Oh - I did turn email notifications off early on in this whole thing, because I was getting spammed!!!

Patience, Padawan. By this I mean to say, I totally understand your frustration - totally. But taking more rest days will benefit you in the long run. It will. You won't lose fitness in 4 days, you won't. Getting to week 9 is not a race; doesn't matter one jot if it takes a wee bit longer - in the end, all you want to do is develop a long lasting love affair with running, right? πŸ˜€

You twinged your knee somehow on a run, and it needs time to heal. Otherwise it will get worse and your time on the IC will get longer. You are, I know, itching to get out there. But you should only run when twinge totally gone. Rest, very gentle stretches and when ready, knee strengthening exercises.

Big hug.

Thanks Sadie, not a lot I can say to that is there? Other than yes, you're right!!

But let's not forget to celebrate that you've made it all the way to week 8! You're doing fantastically :-) I feel like I may have stolen this post rather!!

You know it's right, but sometimes it is good to hear it from a pal. :-)

And don't worry about this thread – happy to chat wherever etc! I toot my own horn more than enough, so happy to talk about what is going on with you!

in reply to Sadie-runs

Ok :-) yet again, I give in!! Much as it pains me, I'm going to have another rest tomorrow, and see how I feel on Weds morning...
