Took me 3 attempts to finish the Wk1 R1 but I'm determined to get off the sofa! Tomorrow will be Wk1 R3. Think I'll need some proper running trainers and comfy socks to go the distance as mine are uncomfortable to say the least. Any tips for buying new trainers?

At the beginning I wouldn't spend too much as you never know if you will keep on running
We were talking on here the other day about Karrimor tempo running shoes so have a look at that thread🙂 You will need shoes at least a half size bigger as your foot will swell as you run. Even if you are buying off the shelf rather having gait analysis, do try on the shoes!
The text book route is go to a proper running shop and have gait analysis and then they will shortlist a shoe for you. They will have various choices for you I suspect. You can then ask to see last year's models as they will always be cheaper than current models. Reputable running shops will take back shoes said for any reason you don't get along with them

Good ones.. they do not need to cost the earth but get decent shoes,, they are your best investment! Get sorted via a reputable running shop...
Comfy socks help too...every body is different so you need to find what is right for you..then, slow and steady does it
