When you do 5k does it include the warmup and cool down or just the running section?
Probably a stupid question: When you do 5k does... - Couch to 5K
Probably a stupid question
If you want to run 5K...for the satisfaction or pleasure of running that distance....it is running all the time and does not include the warm up or cool down.
If you time both walking and running intervals, your average pace will not reflect your running speed, so it is usual to only count the running part.
But if you enter a 5 k event, including Parkrun, you can run or run/walk or even walk the full 5k.
With personal training 5km's I include the warm up but not warm down, for me it's just something I have always done. For events/parkrun it is a straight out of the block start so neither is counted, as with all these things when doing it for yourself there is not right or wrong just what works for you. Most people like to have their fastest 5km time therefore they don't add In The warm up.
Thanks everyone for being so helpful. I am going to start my lovely new Garmin when I start running and stop when I start cooling down. I am a long way away from 5k
