Probably a stupid question...

I have just finished wk 5 run 3 and my son asked me how far I'd run in the 20 minutes. What do you all use to measure this? I don't run along roads so can't use the car to measure distance. Help please?

Most of us use either a GPS watch like Garmin, or a phone app like Runkeeper or MapMyRun, you need a smart phone for those. I think there is a desk top version of some of the apps,so you put your run in when you get home. XX

Curly has it covered :) I currently use runkeeper on my mob

Congratulations on completing W5R3!

I use the MapMyRun app, which chips in every km to say how long it took to run the km, and will record your run for you to review at leisure. When I remember to start it off, that is!

I also have a highly entertaining app called Moves, which sometimes thinks I'm cycling when walking etc. However it is useful in terms of recording your whole day's movements as well as your time and distance for each activity- probably a bit more generalised than MapMyRun though

You can put your postcode into Mapometer (just find it on google) and then plot your route on the map displayed, using the very simple onscreen instructions. It will tell you your distance and the elevation. It a really good tool for planning new routes too.

Same with Mapmyrun (the desk top version).

I use strava on my phone. It's good because it works for cycling too and I like the map it gives you later. It also gives you awards like' your second fastest mile' which I find motivating! I tend to start it at the beginning of the run section. Good luck!

Hi Haf. There are lots of free apps you can install on your smart phone. I used to use endomondo, now I use adidas micoach, which is more compatible with my latest phone. Really like the adidas app, apart from the fact Jessica Ennis greets me ;-) it feels easy to use and has some nice features.
