I am a C25K old timer - I "had" reached the stage of completing 3x half marathons , but am now injured with a fractured bone in my foot (not from running but from blindness - not watching where I was running and falling over a roadside kerb!! ) I think my next run will be about 3 months away.
After my last HM, I started to think where do I go from here? And started to think about maybe doing a little less running and a bit of weight training. But I have never liked gyms much - basically don't really know what to do when I am in one - but now it seems that I will be forced to do some gym training ( to keep my sanity from not being able to run). But - as I said , I don't really know what to do - is there a kind of a C25K for newbie gym bunnies??? Is is feasible to maintain an interest and motivation to go to the gym with one foot missing in action??

I've been a gym bunny on and off for most of my adult life and the first thing I'd say you should do is book a session with a PT(personal trainer) in the gym. He/she will ask you what you're aiming to get out of it and give you a programme, then take you through each exercise. I'm not sure you'd be able to do much cardio work with one foot but you can definitely focus on upper body stuff that will pay great dividends when you return to running.
There was a lady in a wheelchair came to my gym regularly and she managed ok although her husband came with her to help.
You should also check with your physio/consultant/medical professional what exercise you can do/can't do.
Perhaps something like water aerobics might be an option because the water will support your foot.
Oh Bazza I'm so sorry to hear this.... I hope it all heals up soon. And yes I am a regular gym goer now since I injured my Achilles and I have just carried on. I prefer the structure of the classes that lurking around in a gym. I do spinning and bodypump once a week and I do enjoy it and I'm seeing results too 💪🏻
How do you find the structured classes go - with an injured Achilles. For me, I basically only have one foot now for a while - a lot of the structured classes look more to me like being for fully abled souls I have to keep my foot basically still (imagine it being strapped to a plank of wood) - would things like stationary bikes or those cyclic machines suit that situation) ?
