Hi all, this is my first week of torture. I'm hoping to do a 10k wolf run in Sept but I'm the least fit person on earth (or so it feels). The first session almost killed me. Please, somebody tell me it gets easier lol.
Oh so unfit!!: Hi all, this is my first week of... - Couch to 5K
Oh so unfit!!
It doesn't get easier but you get stronger.
I don't wish to be a downer but 10k Wolf Run in Sept is an ambitious target. That would only give you a month or so to get from 5k to 10k, and WR or an kind of OCR demands quite a lot of fitness above and beyond running.
But don't be discouraged. It may not get easy but it does get results and if you stick with it you will achieve it.
Not easier, but as Rignold says, you get stronger with every single run Take his advice on the target too..best to build up slowly and get there in one piece The runs are always there
Slow and steady does it
Rignold has good sound advice and quite right it is you that will get stronger! I would try and do some Parkruns to start with but defiantly not the 10kwolf.it would be rather ambitious. Take your time !,don't rush these things . Focus yourself ! Listen to Laura and graduate with strength and most of all enjoy it all.😃😃Then once you have graduated start to think about doing 10k etc. There will always be longer runs !
Happy running and keep posting your progress! 👍😄😄
In terms of does it get easier, in my experience, that depends on your perspective. I just finished week 4 this week and I would say that running W4R1 felt about as hard as the first run in week 1 did at the time. I consider that progress and I'm sure if I ran Week 1 again now it would seem easy, but I feel like I'm going to be finding it just as tough for all the nine weeks. At the end of nine weeeks, you will hear a lot about consolidation. That ( I hope) means that I will continue to do the same 30 mins running without that lovely Laura upping the ante every time I think I'm winning. My body will continue to get stronger and I will be able then to chose to either extend the 30 mins into 35 or 40 min, or stick with 30 and try to up my pace so I cover more ground in the 30 mins.
I would consider doing a 5km race this year but 10k is definitely for next year, if at all. I'm four weeks in, so that far "ahead" of you, not that it's a race. If you push too hard, too fast you are likely to get injured and then get very frustrated because you have to spend time on the IC (injury couch), something you will read a fair bit about on this forum- everyone's least favourite place to be.
Keep running, keep posting and keep smiling.
"You don't have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great"
Congrats on getting out there👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🐢🐢
I'm starting W5 tomorrow, and while it doesn't get any easier it does get more enjoyable.
I've signed up to do MoRun in November, but I've not yet selected my distance I'm hoping by then I may want a crack at the 10k but I don't want to push myself too hard so will be happy to do the 5k this year and build on that for the 10k next.
Small steps is all it takes if you want to achieve your goals, you will get there eventually but 10k that soon may be pushing it a bit and end up leaving you on the IC.
C25k will show you results in just a couple of weeks..honestly, but it may not feel easier simply because more demands are made of you as you progress. It is not until you graduate that you can really ease off that gently increasing pressure, but by then you will be able to run for thirty minutes continuously and may have run 5k or be well on the way.
Don't despair , this plan works!
