Eek! You're ALL to blame ...

I came to this forum a couple of weeks ago (as a C25k graduate in 2013) and now I have made a decision ... I'm going to try for a 10k at some point this year. You're ALL to blame as you're all so bloomin' supportive to each other and you have motivated me back to regular running after a shaky start to this year. Up until this point I have always said "5k is fine for me, I don't want to take it any further"!! So ... I'm going to take my time and do it gradually with a view to doing a 10k fun run in September or October. I'm only putting it on here as now I HAVE to do it! What a lovely bunch you are .... X

Welcome back to this wonderful happy, funny supportive family :)

I'm slightly worried that I've moved to '10k's fine. Don't need anymore than that!'

Trust me - running's good for shaky stuff. I'm heading to 10k and am finding 4 or so miles a great distance - it gives me time to settle down and just run. I don't have a race in mind, I just want to know I can do it. Taking your time and doing it gradually works for me. Have fun.

Yep 5k is enough any more you get your car! That's what I thought a couple of years ago when I started. So why did I go run that marathon? Well because I could.

Yep, I've been thinking about a 10k for this year - it was my New Year's Resolution. I found this one online, that's on back home in Liverpool in October: btrliverpool.com/tunnel-10k...

I'd just need to find a good training app to guide me....

Well be warned I graduated in December 2015 and will be running my first marathon this May. It's a slippery slope!

10k will be fine, a much smaller jump 5-10 than 0-5.

Ten k is such a fab distance to nail as it opens up a whole new world of running

Get fit for it! Get some cross training done as you need to be stronger in leg, mind and body 😃 I find a ten easier than a five as you have more time to settle into the run

Good luck 😀

Haha, that's what I said too. In fact, my aim was to run for 30 minutes three times a week and I genuinely thought I didn't care if I ever got to running as far as 5k. Then one day I wanted to do that and it took me 50 minutes the first time. Then six weeks before a 10k back in October I decided to go for that... Over the winter I did shorter distances but I'm back up to 10k again.

The other day I was watching women doing a 60-metre sprint in an indoor athletics competition on TV and whilst it was amazing to watch I found myself thinking, "All that effort and training and it's all over in just a few seconds". 10k is a lovely distance for a gentle jog through beautiful scenery, taking it all in and enjoying the fresh air.

Go for it!

Thanks all for the lovely and inspiring comments. I will take on board your tips, especially about the cross-training. Now, unfairly, it would appear I have been given yet another (albeit minor) cold, so training proper should start this weekend. But I plan to do it slowly and steadily in small increments.
