Remembering just how great you feel after each run, even those where everything feels out of sorts, should provide the encouragement to remain consistent in your approach towards training, since the sense of relaxation and satisfaction felt in the hours afterwards rarely ever diminishes.

As for inspirational quotes: 'You get out what you put in'.

"Remembering just how great you feel after each run, even those where everything feels out of sorts" .... and it's the only thing I know that CONSISTENTLY does this!

Will to live so. I can look after myself...... then I will be able to look after those I love.

'Slow is smooth and smooth is fast' - repeated in my head when I'm tiring

'Pass no-one' - at the start of races when I'm trying not to go off like a rocket

I've always reminded myself of the feeling of satisfaction after a run and getting in a hot shower afterwards. I have used running as a stress buster too....I've found if I think about something/someone who has annoyed me it gives me some extra zip to get moving 😂

"When you feel like giving up, remember why you started." I would add to that, "when you feel like giving up, imagine telling your "pre-C25K you" that and imagine how fast you'd have to run to escape the stick".

'Sweat is fat crying' is my favourite.

I just start counting my steps, one two three four.. which was what I did all through the programme to Graduation :)

I do that as well Floss!

I think that idea started when I lost my nerve after a nasty fall from a horse years ago. After that whenever I began to feel nervous or fearful I would count my pony's footfall, the rhythmic beat seemed to relax me and focus my mind. I also used to sing, but I can't do that and run!! When walking up mountains I do the same, counting, that is!

I am a panther, not "the panther" but a good student. ju-ju-

Also

Get your running gear on, by the time you walk out the door your brain will of caught up.

Many a good run has been had by doing this when my brain tried to tell me I didn't want to go out.

Great post

Keep them coming.

When I'm so tired and feel I can't go on I use my fave mantra, ' you are a strong and powerful panther,' it always works!!!

I agree with realfoodieclub just putting my gear on seems to jump start the brain and body. Yesterday, for example we had 40-50 mile an hour gusts and I kept looking out thinking, I can't run in this wind, but I put my stuff on and began thinking of a route! Phew, it was a real work out though! If I am going up a hill I count steps, like OldFloss. Writing my runs down and setting a goal each week also helps, so yesterday I had to go out otherwise I wouldn't' have been able to fit in three runs. Thanks for post - I like thinking about my motivation......

Mine is "You don't have to do this if you don't want to, you can stop right now" Which might not work for everyone but does for me. I am not a big fan of unkind words.

And also, to the gremlins, "Yeah, yeah, you've said your piece, I hear you, enough" - and indeed just smile at all the daft things our brains can throw up.

"Winners never quit and quitters never win"

I don't have a mantra but a trick: I go FASTER for 30 seconds. Otherwise my brain starts thinking it's time to stop, so this gives me a little burst of energy. If you're not in pain/struggling to breathe then it's all in your mind, so trick it!
