Welcome to week 6 of the Xmas quest. 🎄🎄🎄. We are now in the final week of the quest.
How is everyone doing? Are you progressing towards your goals?
Please feel free to join if you've just graduated. Most of us find its a great way to keep, our motivation up.
I find that seeking goals for the next six weeks helps to keep me on track and focussed, and I have little challenges with rewards along the way that give me a boost and keeps the motivation up.
Make it personal to yourself and achievable but as with everything on here have fun with it and enjoy taking part.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises.
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So, if you wanted to join all you have to do is put:
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put our longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.
Good Luck everyone !

My quest was going brilliantly until I was floored by a chest infection and ended up on antibiotics and steroids (again!!) All the more annoying since hubby bought me some beautiful new shoes for Christmas. Doubt I'll be running this week, but hopefully will manage an exploratory jog next week -gotta start the new year with a run!! Hope alls well with you xx
Still on track, 2 runs with asics, then tailrunning (walking, albeit a bit fast in the first lap) on Christmas Eve and topped off the week with a parkrun on Christmas Day. A PB, but I do feel that 5k is my upper limit at the moment. No matter, I will keep running my three days a week and let speed/distance improve as and when it happens.
The next asics run calls for a jump to 7k, which sems tough to me. Almost glad that I will probably have a week off as we are heading north of Aberdeen for Hogmany .
Hi Sue, after I graduated I joined the asics plan and it immediately increased me from my recently acquired 5k status to an 8k run in week 1, i managed it but, well a word of warning, I pulled my achilles, calf and then the next week my hamstring....... My advice is do the 10%maximum increase per week and let asics adjust as you log each run, it automatically adjusts your plan if you divert from it, and use you common sense not like I'd did.
Thanks @paul46-ipswich , I don't intend to overdo it. In fact I will probably wait now to see what our lovely administrators have in store for us next month. I don't have any particular race or event to train for, so I can take it as it comes. I just want to run 3 times a week, including parkruns.
I also plan to dust off the exercise bike when we get home from Scotland and use that 2 or 3 times a week. We have had it for years, every now and then I got into a routine of using it for a week or two but it was a chore. I am hoping it won't be any more because it will complement my running and walking.
I'm doing ok despite being on the IC and then recovery! ..........I sound like a runner there don't you think?
Did a parkrun yesterday, have also done 2 volunteering pr during my time on IC........loved these! I am planing a further Parkrun on Saturday yippee!
Have been very good with my stretches and strengthening exercises. You only need one injury to realise how important theses are!
I have also completed my glute challenge of 60 bridges a week. I had to adapt these a little to take strain off niggly knee but I am seeing a small increase in my pace so I think these are working. I've now embraced the dreaded foam roller..........
I haven't increased my distance to 6.5k, I've been good to rebuild slowly post injury but now back at 5k so I'm pleased at that!
Happy running! Thanks for setting the quest ju-ju-
All ticked off! OK, now throw a cushion, or the remains of the stuffed turkey, or whatever at me for being so smug
- Running three time a week - long run, steady one, go-faster one, but may start mixing up and also trying some C25k+ podcasts as Santa brought me some bluetooth headphones
- Got to the magic 5k on 24th Nov and now running just over 5k twice a week. Haven't really tried increasing distance on a regular basis as wanted to make sure I was fast enough at park run not to finish last (oh that pride thingy, it does get in the way!) but will join in with Ju-Ju's 10k challenge in Jan.
- Did my first parkrun on Christmas Eve - loved it and came in with a PB of 36m 23s. Wore my go-faster Santa hat which I'm sure helped ;-). Can't wait until next Saturday!
After the episode with my disobedient quads I've made a real effort with my stretches which seems to have helped as they (quads) have been beaten into submission and play ball now.
Happy running all. Many thanks for the quest, it was my first and I will definitely join in others now!
I've had two really good runs this week, Christmas parkrun with Madge, and a hop around town on Christmas day, where I actually managed to get a bit of a shift on! First good run since I came down with a virus 10 weeks ago. What a nuisance that has been, there is so much gorgeous running round here, and I've not been able to take advantage of it. Still, hopefully that's behind me now.
Finally off to the chalk pits I've been wittering on about for months tomorrow!
Well done, I saw the parkrun pic it was fabulous....
Did run today instead of yesterday . Probably just as well. Also going out about 9.30 was able to catch some sunshine up and down lake and canal. Ran 6K and 40 minutes. Extra ballast of extra couple of pounds weight gain slowed me down a bit.My aim is to get up to 45 minutes. Best yet is about 43 minutes.
At least heading in right direction. This holiday period upsets the routine a bit but am trying out podcasts and for next quest will work on core exercises. Just as well I don't drink at all now. I know that normally would put on more weight and be really lethargic over this period. I don't worry about it because I just know that I am in the good habits now and Xmas holidays are a "blip" moment and not a "falling off the wagon" moment.
But if I compare this year to last year running 6k or even any exercise is a big achievement.
Anyway as I often say and bore the pants off people "Where's the fire". There's no rush !
Another 7/7 on the candlelit yoga - there is something really special about that moment of striking the match.
Busy with Christmas preparations and trying to recover from additional things so I only managed one run, on Christmas morning. Did please myself by having some good walks around town at night.
My weight this Quest has been a crazy thing - the plan was to have it below 68kgs before Christmas so that I wasn't starting the New Year overweight due to all the festive consumption and possibly reduced activity. But I am nearer that than I thought I was going to be.
I have come down with a cold, but the upside of that is that although it hasn't totally wiped out my tastebuds, it does seem to have reduced my appetite.
Not always managed the 3 runs a week but have now run 5k 4 times including completing the virtual parkrun on Christmas Eve when I finished 347th out of 358 Pride intact as I wasn't last The holidays have certainly put a spanner in the works but normal service is starting to resume.
Killed 2 birds with one stone , as they say, today. Had to buy some new jogging pants and couple of long sleeved shirts and other "man stuff" if you know what I mean.
So worked out shopping centre via indirect route down canal and old lake I used to run was about 6K . So ran that in about 40 minutes. Managed to run carrying couple of light bags in pump bag. Walked home Ok . Bags of clothing very light.
Bonus was despite being cold was glorious sunshine on my face. Also while out I couldn't eat mince pies. Thankfully they are nearly all gone now. There is a park run Sunday New years day so hope to a at least match my 35 minutes on previous one.
