This time last year I was celebrating completing c25k after a real struggle I couldn't believe I had finally done it ! Sadly in January I badly broke my ankle, I broke all 3 bones, I had surgery to put a plate and 10 pins in. After 5 months of fairly good recovery I started getting infections in my ankle. I lost a lot of my mobility and was struggling to walk. I was put on the waiting list to have my metal work all removed. I got a date for surgery - 14th Dec - yay
Just over a week ago, I came down with Shingles I went to the doctor who gave me antivirals in the hope I would still be able to have the surgery. The believed cause of my Shingles was stress and the fact that my immune system had been compromised by the amount of high strength penicillin I had been given in a short period of time to control the infection in my ankle.
I called the hospital on Monday to check whether they would do my operation they said to turn up and they would assess me then.
Luckily the antivirals worked their magic and I had my op as planned yesterday.
So now I'm at home, sitting resting again, when all I really want to do is get back to running. I've got 4 weeks ahead of me on crutches and because I now have 8 holes in my fibula (small bone in the leg) and the surgeon had to forcibly remove the plate leaving my bone 'fragile' I'm not allowed to start running again or doing anything classed as high impact or anything that could cause a stress fracture for another 6 months.
When will this all end ?????

Oh you poor thing, that is absolutely pants 😝, however, you've made it this far with your brilliant attitude, how about concentrating on a good diet to help get that bone strength back up, and when you're allowed get into low impact training......I know it doesn't help right now, but the time will pass - quicker than you think, and as my mum used to say, nothing ever stays the same....
This running lark makes us very impatient with our bodies doesn't it?
All the best and good luck with your healing journey....🤗
Oh wow, you've not had a good year! And another 6 months to go, that sucks big time. However, the good news is that it WILL end, you're more than halfway through. Try to keep your chin up, even if it must be awfully hard at the moment.
You poor thing, you must be really fed up, but you're going to have to be patient for a while longer. Don't do anything to compromise your recovery, and once you're allowed to exercise it might be worth getting a physic to put you through your paces and let you know what you can do and what to avoid, so that at least you can be working on strength and fitness without doing high impact stuff.
I really hope that someone is looking after you well, and making sure you're sitting with your feet up being waited on.
Good news that you finally got it sorted and can move on after a period of rest. The fact that things are on the up should help you feel much better about your outlook and help spur you on with your recovery. being involved in that process is good and will keep you motivated to get better. will you be getting physio?
Shingles is stress I think. my husband seems to get them about boxing day, after a year of stress, when he finally gets a rest. Make your diet the best it can be while you are somewhat laid low by shingles and not active with your ankle
I hope you soon start to feel better and wish you all the best with your recovery ☺
