New new shoes - the saga continues :)

Instead of, I hasten to add, not as well as! I posted the other week about beautiful new shoes: two pairs of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16s. They were gorgeous... and they sat in the box, and I put them on, and thought about them, and took them off, and put them back in the box, and went for runs in my GTS 15s, and thought some more, and tried them on again... and took them back to the shop.

I went back to the shop in my 15s which I am fairly sure are too big, because they rub on the toes - I reckon this is because my feet slide around going downhill - but they are nice and wide. The 16s felt narrower, and, being a bit geeky sometimes, I also took in the two pieces of string I'd used to measure the uppers across the toe box on the 15s and the 16s :D . There was almost half an inch difference. Officially, they were both the same fitting - not a wide fitting, or anything.

I wanted to be measured in the 16s again by another person to see if they thought they would be okay. Of course, what happened was that they said, 'What do you think?' which was the problem in the first place! However, fortunately, someone else overheard me say, 'They feel a bit tight' and said, 'We do have the wide fitting in those.' I slipped my foot in and said, 'Bliss!' Hobbit-foot was happy :)

They suggested I did a dreadmill run in them first because I could take them back if they weren't right. I did this last week - I was chuffed because it was the first dreadmill run where I've managed to run without holding on :) - but oh my goodness THE BOREDOM! I managed 3k but that was it. It felt like about 8k :D

The shoes felt fine so today I took them outside for their inaugural run. It was sunny and warm and we covered 6k. I have happy hobbit feet :)

It's the first time I've ever had women's shoes! Normally I end up with men's, which I'm sure are the same construction, but this is the first time I too have had pretty shoes :)

Wonderful.. so glad it seems sorted for you!

Errr.. now we have seen the shoes.. could we have a photo of your hobbit feet please...?

I am interested to see if like Tolkien suggested .."they seldom wore shoes, since their feet had tough leathery soles and were clad in a thick curling hair, much like the hair of their heads, which was commonly brown"

Only joking :) x

You have done nothing bad enough to deserve seeing my feet, Floss! :D x Put it this way, Tolkein wasn't that far off :(

Thank you! I love having purple laces - although they aren't quite long enough!

Pretty purple shoes! But seriously, how do people run for miles on there? All credit to them, 'cos I couldn't do it!

It just goes to show, trust your instincts! You were obviously put off them for good reason and have found a much better fitting solution! Plus an excuse for a new outfit... x

Lovely!

Glad you got things sorted with the fitting, in the end. I had a similar experience with an upgraded model of New Balance. The old ones fitted like a glove and despite trying to convince myself that the new ones did too, I felt they were 'pinching' around the toe box and eventually took them back.

Why do they do this? 'New! Improved!' Ha - not!! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Glad you took yours back in the end.

I hope you get on with them. I had a pair of 15s which I absolutely adored. When they wore out, I replaced them with some 16s without giving it too much thought. They're not as comfy and I do think the shape is slightly different around the toes. The main issue I have, as someone who narrow feet who likes the laces heel locked, is that the tongue just isn't long enough and the laces usually end up travelling underneath the tongue and pressing into my foot. Hubby as just bought some 17s and I think they may have gone back to the longer tongue used on the 15s.

This is the problem - we assume that they use the same last (or whatever) on the 15 and the 16 and the 17... and of course they don't! They have to be seen to change things, otherwise they think we won't spend money on the new shiny, but actually, what we want is our familiar comfortable shoe! Ahem. Sorry, I'm ranting! I find it so difficult to find a shoe that fits comfortably though, and then when I do and they change it... aaaargh! I hope you can find a comfy shoe next time!
