Do you include your warm up/cool down walks in your shoe mileage, or just the running bits?
Shoe mileage: Do you include your warm up/cool... - Couch to 5K
Shoe mileage
My phone counts it all, so so do I! But I've seen a variety of figures for how far a pair of shoes should last, from 350 miles to 500 miles, so tempting as it is, I'm not replacing them as soon as they hit 350...
Thanks! I usually just start my Garmin when I start running. Most shoes say 400 - 600 miles, which is up to 1,000 KM. I've done 600 KM in one pair, which are feeling a bit knackered, but that doesn't include walking. I wonder if I should factor that in...I've actually got new shoes, so it was just speculation really.
My Garmin clocks my shoe millage and this is based upon starting/stopping my run so I personally dont include warm up / cool down.
Thanks! Do you include walks in your decision to change your shoes? Or just your running mileage?
TBH my warm up walks are so short it probably doesn't add anything and probably wouldn't add any extra wear to my shoes... so running time only for me.
I did 750k in my last pair of shoes, which I felt was about right. Whilst the shoes looked OK, I think that some of the cushioning and support had gone.
I dont... that is very specific....!!!
Wow, I didn't know that I needed to keep an eye on my mileage for my shoes. As I'm a relative newbie, I guess it won't be a problem for a good long while yet.
I no longer keep a track of my shoe mileage ( I have 14 pairs which I alternate daily - so I think I am right for shoes now until around age 80!! However- I do know that my shoes wear differently when walking than when running. I "pronate" when walking , landing on the outside of my heels - and feet roll over as the forefoot comes into play - whereas when I run I land rather "flatly" on my forefoot/midfoot with little heel contact.
Also the walking component of my "runs" are only a very small part of the time outside - except for when I am doing run/walk HM training.
I don't include the warm up or cool down either, just the running bit that makes Garmin records. x
I'd just consider the miles covered in the trainers, replacing them after 500-600 miles.
I just count the running but then I'm using an old fashioned wristwatch!
Hmm, hadn't thought about mileage in shoes as I'm a long way off needing to think about replacing shoes, but I do have 2 pairs - one pair for off road/mixed and one pair for road only so maybe it is worth telling Garmin/Strava which I'm wearing!
Because I always buy the same shoes, I have a rough idea of how many kilometers I get before my joints feel it so I know to pay extra attention. And it's very low - I am very heavy footed and hard on shoes. Around 350-400k running, I've already crunched the heels down. But that doesn't include warm-up and cool down, and the occasional walk I do in my shoes.
I wore my first pair out in 300 KM, I took them back to the shop! I'm normally really light on shoes, but not runners it seems...my shoes look fine, but I suspect they're knackered.
Just the running bits from when the watch starts, ,ti l it stops I forget about the miles of dog walks done in my trail shoes. Doh! 😊 at least it gives you some idea of the miles put on them.
Not all shoes are the same. I found a chart on the Web about expected mileages from lots of branded shoes. My Brooks Cascadias have a long life apparently. you might feel, it when they have gone. I definitely felt it when my nike pegasus lost their bungee ☺
I know! Some weigh a ton 😊
I like less shoe these days 😊
