Middle son, via What's App message: I'll come running with you when I'm home for Christmas what's your pace like?

Me: ****

Son: I'll be sure to pace you a bit faster.

On the one hand, yes I run faster with company, and he's kind of out of practice himself, but he's also half my age, and has run marathons...

Ooh! Not sure I'd dare to run with my son either! He's too competitive to go slow enough.

However, I do remind him that I taught him to walk in the first place, haha!

Hahahaha! That's true, and I taught him to ride a bike. J is pretty good, he helped me plod round a mud run last year and didn't even go sprinting off at the end when he caould have done. :D

If you've already run together, it'll be fine! I leave at the same time as Kiddo, but we soon part company - he runs rings around me.

Run together! I run sometimes with my very pacy son. I just remind him that i need to run at my own pace and he stays with me at that. Sounds like your son will do similar. Lovely to have the company occasionally, I always take the opportunity to do a river run where i wouldn't normally run alone. If you dont think he can stick with your pace tell him to start with you and then meet you somewhere.

Its lovely that he has offered to go out with you, enjoy!😀🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻

That's a good idea. He could also run round a couple of fields while I cut across them ad well😊

At Parkrun I start off with my nephew, but have to let him go on, he is 20 years younger than me! Anyway it has the benefit that he's waiting at the finish line with a drink of water!ha ha😊

O go for it!! Same happened to me I was visiting my son who had just finished a half marathon & he didn't give me a choice I crept out of house early in the morning to run & next I knew he caught up with me & said same il go at your pace & il help you get to that 5k!! Guess what I did & was so proud as struggled after graduation to get passed 3.7km ! It made it an extra special memory as he was with me😊 he only started running this year too but I'm not aiming for half marathons yet😂😂. So go go go.. We should be proud our sons want to run with us😊 happy running x

It was a really nice surprise when he offered. I'd resisted the urge to ask him to come out with me in case he got all precious about it.

My older son will be home for the holidays and has said he will run one of the Xmas weekend parkruns with me. He does a lot of running, 5k, 10k, half and full marathons. He recently did 10k in 40 mins so he could actually get round Parkrun twice in the time it takes me to do it once ;) . Still, he knows the time it takes me and has still said he'd like to run with me. Just hope he can stay upright with the fits of laughter he is sure to be in. Love him :)

His younger brother wouldn't be seen dead running with me!! With any luck, big son will take me by the hand and drag me up the hill on our run ;)

I wouldn't worry. Lads always talk a good job

I bet he is worried which is why he asked. Text him back and say "why, what's yours"! tee hee

you will have a lovely time! I wish my son would run with me. Or even my old man. Sigh.

No. He definitely had no reason to be worried. ☺ And I did mention to him the other day that I find it hard to go outside my comfort zone

misswobble profile image

Oh you will leave your comfort zone I can assure you. You will deffo want to stretch yourself if you keep running. Your natural curiosity will get the better of you. It's natural to want to progress which means pushing on steadily further away from home. Pretty soon you will know every street, lane, highway, byway, footpath, snicket, etc in your entire area. Each road, street, hill will begin to hold special significance. I name my nemeses! Hill of Death, Slope of Doom, etc.

If he does want to run too fast, don't be tempted. Let him go. Try and stick to a speed where you can hold a conversation, which will be nice as you can catch up on your news.

I actually avoid hard surfaces as much as possible as I have a slightly dodgy back which does not respond well to that kind of impact but I know what you mean :D
