Welcome to the Stride into Summer Quest week 6

I hope everyone is is doing ok and those who are still on the IC couch are making progress.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Yeah finally I think I qualify to join the quest , next run being w9r2 :)

1. My aim is to build up to 5k.. currently just achieving 3 k in 30minutes.

2. Have a 5k race for life.. my first ever run event.. I would like to run all of the way :)

3. Take part in a parkrun.. have read some really inspiring stories on here.. they sound very welcoming :)

I would like to up my level of training from three runs a week to six days of planned activity, adding two days of weights and one of cross training.

Woo, the final week always comes round so fast!

I am left with a few things to tick off:

1) the bike ride for which I am dependent on others since I can't load it up alone. Still hopeful...

2) another swim to get in to reach Matlock Bridge in my virtual River Derwent swim. That should be do-able. My swims this Quest have been shorter than intended but there have been enough of them (and that is probably better in terms of fitness)

3) an interval/coached run, which I should get done in the next day or two.

Nicely in the bag:

a) the longer run. I did a second 10k this week. Really good for the soul (my hips say my next few runs need to be on kinder surfaces)

b) the yoga programme (no thanks to one of my cats who deliberately interfered with the laptop as I was blocking the door) I really enjoyed doing this and the discipline of repeating each class one more time rather than rushing on to do the next one and learned a lot about where my impairments still lie. I also learned a lot about how often my family interrupt me!

Sort of achieved:

Weighing less than 70kgs - depends how I assess this... I may not be back there at the end of the final week, but I was comfortably below for several days this week. I had a few challenges and a few bad choices since. But the best progress all year.

Doesn't time fly. I am managing to build up distances a little, doing a lot more cycling...

training ( in the form of excessive heavy gardening :))

I still want to try and increase my speed a little too. Have been working on that :)

Time for me to push out the distance. I'm up to 5K again, I have a nice 7K route planned for when the weather is conducive. It's weird how we get out of the habit, 7K was a short run just a few weeks ago.

Yes, that's what happened to me, the runs were getting shorter and shorter. But turns out I still had it in me :-)

I've been OIC, taking it gently on the way back up!

Count me in , I would like to be able to run a full 5k as although a graduate and running for around 35 mins, I can't quite get to 5k.

We are in the home stretch of the quest!

I had another good running week, three of 7k, 5k, and 10.5k. I battled a virus and allergies all week, and didn't do a bit of strength cross training. I did, however, keep up with hip stretches, and my daughter did learn to ride her bike!

The last two runs were continuous, which I may regret. In spite of careful stretching, I have had a tight quadricep/glute on the right side for a few days now. I may need to scale back distances this week, or at least cut down on the walking I have been doing.

On the schedule: 7k, 7k, 14k. I will aim for 2 arm days and one 30 day shred.

Have a good week 6, questers!

Morning RFC 😊

Still in training for upcoming ten mile race and running 3 or 4 times a week. It's going well and i've managed to pull in two races during my training. Running a 5k today ☺

Gosh - week 6 already. I'm happy to report that I did the 3 runs from my HM training plan. A 10.5k at target race pace on Tuesday (although I was slower than my target pace I did manage to push myself and manage a reasonable pace throughout). A 5k at a comfortable jog on Friday, and then 14k at a comfortable pace on Saturday. Am enjoying the longer runs, even if they are time-consuming !

I managed three runs last week and one gym session. I've been building up my time with my new insoles and did 25 minutes yesterday. Yeah! They don't feel so strange now and I guess you just get used to them the more you wear them. So far so good with no niggles but I'm being extra careful and so will keep to 25 minutes this week before moving up to 30 minutes next week.

My back has still been quite painful (from the gardening) and there are some exercises I still can't do but today I woke up and the pain has all disappeared! Weird.

Have a great week questers and keep the faith all those on the IC.

Had a positive week with 3 runs (1 of which was an interval run and the others both 5ks). Also 2 good swims. Pushed to try to get a Parkrun PB which was counterproductive as I went off too fast.

Did 3 runs last week - speed, stamina and 6km.

I don't think I've mentioned I'm also doing 2x30 minutes of abs classes every week. Am trying to be "aware of my core muscles" as Laura likes reminding me...

Completed my marathon in a month for a charity part of my quest running 3x weekly ,

Trying to improve my running and find after the first k I am in a steady pace , and really enjoying the different routes I've chosen, seem to be getting an increase in speed according to my husband still much slower than him though, and park run is becoming a weekly must do , although my times are much the same we had 600 runners Saturday at Frimley lodge park when Guildford and Rushmore park runs were closed . A huge field of runners great to be part of it,

Maria62 profile image

Please include me - just the motivation I need. I am trying to do a 5K at the beginning of the week, a slow 10K mid week and a 5K park run on a Saturday morning. Unfortunately, I don't always achieve that but feel I may well do so with having a bit of a challenge.

Good Evening fellow questers and thanks to RFC for putting this up again .

Had a brilliant time at the GMR, 2 new PB's for a 5k and 10k, so was really pleased at that :-) Had the rest of the week off and ran 5k on Saturday .

Went out again today, but it was a 9k run, walk, jog, stagger , crawl as it was hot, very busy down the towpath and plus my bra strap was rubbing - Pah ! 9k is 9k though so I'm happy with that !

Starting back on my Asics plan again for my HM on Wednesday and I really MUST do some cross training to complement my runs .

Have a great week fellow questers, and to all those on the IC and for those going through tough times, sending you healing and peaceful vibes . Big hugs (((( )))) xxx

Only one run, but it was a fantabulous one, running tourism again for a lovely 10k at dawn over Sydney Harbour Bridge and around the Opera House :) Yes, I do know how lucky I am, and I give thanks regularly :)

I let myself down in week 5 and only managed 2runs (although did get a 5k pb of 33:38) but made up for it this week with 4 runs, one of which was 8k. I've started to dabble in fartleks (although I can't even write the word without an internal huge grin 😀) and have even switched my 'pace' off on my phone for a few so just ran as to how I felt. I feel like I'm not progressing fast enough but I'm sure I'm just being impatient. I've signed up for the Edinburgh 10k next May too :)

Still running 5 K in around 42-43 minutes so not going to get to my goal of 40 mins this time I don't think. Had a couple of wobbly runs where I didn't reach 5 K but then went back out and gritted my teeth. Last run was 5.42 K in 46 mins. Out again today as Race for Life looms.

I did manage the BHF marathon over the course of May - but only just! Was a nightmare month all around, so managed 27 miles by the end and therefore only just squeezed all the runs in.

Reporting back this time seems to have been the major fail!!

Since my last report on week 2 I've managed to fit in a few runs...only one a week and 2 this week - might just get another in tomorrow....

Managed to finish the BHF My Marathon Challenge by the skin of my teeth. Must remember to donate some money - friends are getting fed up with the endless charity pleas.

Thanks RFC. Will try to do better next challenge 😜
