Welcome to the Stride into Summer Quest week 4

The virtual Quest run is now posted.

I hope everyone is is doing ok and those who are still on the IC couch are making progress.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

I'm getting a bit more normal this week. I opted out of running completely last week. The HM and a little dose of radiation (for a test) did me in. I have managed to get through the week without something biting me but I have felt like my immune system has taken a battering. I'm going for a gentle run today and I'm really looking forward to it. Probably 3-5 km depending how I feel while I'm out.

I read somewhere that it takes the same number of days to recover as the race mileage. So, for a 10K it takes 6 days and for a HM it would take 13 days, and so on. Made sense to me. And you've got your other physical challenge too so no wonder you feel done in. Enjoy your run today RFC. It's gorgeous out there.

I had quite a fab wee week. Stuck to my 3 runs and did 7k, 5k and then 8.?k (5mile) last night :) Broke 12 min mile average on last night's (11m39s) and 'got over myself' for my 5k and ran up my local main road with hilly bits :) Happy days :)

Morning RFC. Hope you're keeping well!

Running 3 times a week and training for a race in July. I slotted in a 10k race last weekend which went well despite it being hilly and hard work

Did a long run of 16 k on roads and fields yesterday and it went well thankfully.

Still trying to slot in strengthening sessions but it's veg growing season so I am spending most of my time doing that, and trying to walk the neighbours dog twice a week. I do jog club once a week too.

I have a hill race on Sunday, which promises to be a laugh if nothing else. It's up the steepest hill in town. I think it will end up being mostly walked as it's just too steep to run up. There's a cycle race up it first. Sheesh!

Gawd MissW, just did a small hill this morning and managed, just! In awe you are actually going to race up a steep-un.

Plodding along but this week (today), for the first time, have included a couple of hills. Slowly. Oh so slowly. Not helped much by going out early before every other dog walker has cleared the critters away - 2 lurchers on lead with squirrels/pheasants/rabbits everywhere makes it all extra interesting. I have deducted marks for any extra speed gained by unauthorised assistance.

I had another great week with my three runs (still 20 minutes and it's starting to do my head in but have to stick with it for the time being) and had three gym sessions and one Pilates class.

I've had to split my gym sessions and concentrate on weights one day and cardio the next because I've upped my weights - it's summer time and I need to work on my arms now 💪😊 and so I ran out of time and had to go back the next day for the bike!

In fact I wore workout gear every day last week!

I haven't got my insoles yet and we're away for a few days this week so I'm not going to be able to do as much and I can't run as we're visiting family and they've planned a full diary. But I'll catch up at the weekend!

Have a great week n this gorgeous weather questers and keep the faith all those still on the IC.

A pretty good week in terms of the Quest. Didn't get the second run in that I hoped for (had walks or visits with family instead) Not the bike but I keep "raising awareness". I have felt pretty rubbish... not particularly sure why (although a lot of "awareness days" for issues relevant to me and mine have been... irritating somehow)

Two swims, did a long yoga class twice (seated postures are so much easier for me than standing so that was pretty straightforward) but I have realised that I need to make sure to keep up my short practice first thing.

Best of all the weight seems to spending more time the right side of the line!

Hello RFC, it was great to see the progress on the virtual quest, thanks for putting it up.

I had a good week, met and exceeded my running goals. Three runs, 8k, 8k and 10.5! I only did one round of 30 day shred because I added one kilometer to the first two runs, and by the end of the week, I was stiff and tired.

This week I am due to run 10.5, 5, and 14k. I also aim for 2 strength sessions, and to get out for three walks with my daughter who is learning to ride her first bicycle!

I am most worried about the first run, it is mean to be at race pace, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to do it for the whole time. I am also not sure about how to manage pacing along with taking walk breaks. In spite of my worry, I seem to be running a bit too fast for the targets in the myasics plan, and at the same time I am shifting into a mostly continuous runner but I still like to start out with a few walk breaks. So... the adventure continues...

Have a good week, runners!

Had good week. 1 trail run , 1 Jogscotland run, and children's cancer run with grandchildren. Enjoyed all of them. Still thinking about doing some speed work but don't think it'll be happening this week. Doing10 k trail race at Keswick next weekend and not quite as fit as I had hoped but just going to go out and enjoy. Happy running everyone

Hi Rfc and everyone. This is just a very quick update before I leave for the airport, so many apologies that I'm not responding to anyone else's posts. I may not get to comment next week either :(

I had an okay week with one bad run and one good run - the bad one was Laura's Speed intervals full of technical issues and a near-asthma attack, followed the next day by a 7k good run. That's how it goes, eh?

Happy running everyone - I will do my very best to get some running tourism done :) My trainers are packed, as is my kit and my Garmin will be with me. Off to Australia - but first to meet up with a lovely running friend for a meal this evening as well. Life is good - I hope it is for you all too :)

I did my second parkrun at the weekend and also did my first 7 k run last week, wasn't planned just tried a new route with tracker on but volume down so I didn't know how far I'd gone. That's my goals for this quest mostly reached a bit quicker than planned so I want to do another 7 k this week and at least one 5 or 6 k. Continuing goal to do 3 runs /week and slowly increase distance on 1 run.

Only 1 run and 1 yoga class this last week. Run was with jogscot group and was 8.5 tough k. Then I got a bit chesty and lost my voice (again). A friend, who I met through this forum and lives in south of england, was up for the weekend and we'd planned to do Parkrun on Sat and a lovely 10k on Sunday - but I wasn't up to it :( She still did the 10k with another ex HU'er and my hubby. I walked part of it in the sunshine and managed a bit of cake with them afterwards though.

I'm not sure if I'm up to yoga tonight yet but I am feeling a bit better so might manage to go out with jogscot group tomorrow, fingers crossed. Hope everyone is hale and hearty, happy running x

I haven't been good at updating progress due to weekends away / lots of work etc etc. My recent(ish) highlight was doing my first bit of parkrun tourism - Richmond Park, on the weekend of the Hackney half marathon. It was interesting to do something the same but different. Organised much the same as my 'home' parkrun but with the added benefit of pacers for various finish times. Very different sort of course (undulating, some on paths and grass versus my very flat home promenade). Seemed a slightly younger crowd, possibly due to it having a higher difficulty factor than my home run. Didn't run at all last weekend (in Lyon for the European rugby finals) nor have I run yet this week (workload). Back on the 'horse' at the weekend.

Well that's me done. Final run for the British Heart Foundation marathon. Glorious day in the park, a nice 5 k to finish on. Total run in May 28 miles.
