My friend has talked me into a 4K fell run this afternoon. You know those things you agree to and sound like a great idea at the time.

I'm writing this so I don't back out. I've no idea what fell running is but this one is for beginners and will be flagged so won't need to read a map. I'm currently shaking with nerves.....

Isn't fell running when you run up hills? Good luck.

Go for it! I've never done any fell running but I believe it's running up and down moorland hills. Just take it steady and watch where you plant your feet so you don't twist an ankle. Most importantly, embrace the experience and enjoy yourself. πŸ˜ƒ

Fell running, also known as mountain running and hill running, is the sport of running and racing, off road, over upland country where the gradient climbed is a significant component of the difficulty. The name arises from the origins of the English sport on the fells of northern Britain, especially those in the Lake District.

Fell races are organized on the premise that contenders possess mountain navigation skills and carry adequate survival equipment as prescribed by the organizer. In the USA it is called trail running.

As your a beginner you'll be OK, enjoy!

Fell run done- very big hills, ran some walked some when I thought the lungs would explode. Slippery trails with lots of roots to leap- well signed though and about 100 runners well spread out! Must admit I had a ball, awfully glad I did it. Had a long downhill to the end and was sprinting along with another lady with a noisy crowd cheering us on- felt like chariots of Fire- will stay with me s long time that. Lots of encouragement all the way round. I'll be doing that again!
