Trainer Tragedy

Why are my trainers suddenly giving me blisters, they aren't new and are normally fine? I've increased my distance but surely that can't be it.

Is it your socks - are they different? Otherwise it maybe because it's warmer and your feet are expanding more or getting sweaty. How old are the shoes? Have they lost their padding?

Same socks, shoe soles not worn padding looks ok but what do I know. Could well be the weather just don't want the expense of new ones if they are not the problem

Sometimes if your calves are very tight it can cause more friction on your heels (were the blisters on your heels?). The solution to this is to make sure you do plenty of calf stretches to keep those muscles lengthened.

Otherwise maybe your trainers have become too worn or part of the trainer has bent or become 'bobbly'.

Hope the blisters heel quickly....blister plasters are amazingly good for stopping it getting worse, but better if you put them on before it gets sore!

Blister plaster went on immediately! It's to the side of my big toe next to the ball of the foot

Hey Baileyb. How goes it? Apart from the blisters obviously! I found the same when I increased distance. My old trainers were fine on the shorter runs (still are) but as soon as I went beyond a certain distance my toes would burn and I got blisters where I'd never had them before. I think it's just because the further you go the more your feet swell. I got some new ones, half a size bigger I think. They took a bit of wearing in because of my funny shaped feet but after that they were absolutely fine. No blisters.

That sounds about right , may need new ones then for longer distances, always good to hear from others. In the meantime will keep compeed on spot whether blistered or not. Got a lot of Disney park walking to do this year, don't want blisters before I start

Ooh definitely not. Banish those blisters before you start walking!

Thinking about it my hands were really puffy and throbbing whilst I was running, if feet were the same that would explain a lot, although would have expected more blisters! Shoes already half a size larger than I would normally wear .

Oh how strange. I've never had that but that would explain a lot. Maybe see how you go on your next long run. Hopefully it was just a one off and you'll be fine next time

Will keep you updated. Short one tomorrow, and a parkrun with rib on Saturday, should be fun

So with two pairs of socks, blister plasters and the same trainers I did my 10k around the Olympic park, NO BLISTERS and a PB. Not bad for a peanut butter turtle!!

I am and not a blister in sight. Really hot lots of hills but made it to the big screen inside the stadium, nowhere near last and very emotional. Watching athletics on TV now and thinking Mo Farah you are running on my track!

Just checked trainers and can't feel anything wrong. Was a bad run yesterday 8k, and trainers were only part of the problem. But we all get bad runs . Wasn't stamina or muscle problem more a trapped wind in shoulder blade thing which affected the whole run. Never mind

I think it could well be the increased temperature. Making your feel swell more.

It's possible

I am sorry your feet are sore. I have a 7km cut off zone, the ball of my right foot get a bit sore after that but only hurts between 7 and 12 km and then it gets better. When I did the HM I had blisters for the first time ever in those shoes, you know how hot it was that day and three hours in the same socks was too much. Someone recommended a talc for runners. I haven't tried it so I don't know if it works but here is the link.

When it's hot I swear by brooks foot powder, now they have a spray!! Since I started using it hot weather I no longer get blisters like I use to. Sometimes I still get the odd one but it has reduced them loads

Where can I buy

I usually find Brooks foot powder in the supermarket or try sports shops.

Have used compeed gel in the past with success on a rubbing heal.

I have some Boots fibre plasters kept in the pocket.

Normally I'm a size 9 shoe, so got 9.5 but one felt too tight, so got size 10s and they've been great..

Yes - I had the same thing. Inside of the big toe when I increased my distance. I found wearing 2 pairs of socks (!!!!!!) and anti chaffing cream did the trick. I've maintained these habits but I think my feet might just have toughed up in the end. In the mean time the blister plasters were fab :)

Good luck in getting them sorted.
