Is 10k in September possible??

I'm only on week 3 but love it! I want a long term goal to keep me focused. I was thinking of signing up for a 10 k run in September. It would be a life time ambition of mine.

What do people think about this? Would it be good you have a goal or pushing myself too hard?

There are assorted Couch to 10k plans around, which take around 12 weeks, I think, so doing C25k first then a Bridge to 10k plan should be fine. I re-started C25k in Jan this year, finished it at the end of March, then got persuaded to sign up for a 10 in early June. It's hard work, but I'm enjoying the running more than I ever have before! I'm not sure I'm going to be able to run the whole 10k - that's my aim - as although I should have got to the end of the 10k plan, I'm not exactly quick, so there's no way I'm going to manage it in 60 mins. But you've got over 4 months to get there, so plenty of time to take it steady and build up your stamina. :)

Depends on you, but I'd say yes. Accepted best practice seems to say you should increase your distance by no more than 10% a week.

I graduated on 27th March. I ran my first 10k on 6th April, and I've done a 10k or more every Monday since. I signed up for a 10K race on Fathers Day in June. Today I went out and tried the course out, though I got a bit lost and ended up running 12K!

I'm not suggesting or encouraging you to do the same, but yes, September is very doable. The key is to find a slow, comfortable pace you can easily sustain, and just let yourself run.

I started C25k in November, having signed up for a 10k in May (next week in fact :( ). I think having that goal what what kept me going on the, shall we say, 'less satisfying' runs. Take it carefully and follow a plan and I think September is achieveable. I've just entered the Run To The Beat 10k in Wembley in September :) Good luck, Steve

I started in January (could not run round the block) and did the Cambourne 10K in April. Stick to the program and dont get too down hearted with the bad runs, we all get them.

Good luck :)
