Hi and welcome to the "How much chocolate" Quest week 4
I love the idea of, at the end of this quest having our longest run Converted into the equivalent of Cadbury cream eggs. I will have to work on a way to add an emoticon onto a post so I can answer your longest run post with eggs. I will work it on an average person so it will approximate. But would have to admit you might have a choclate problem if you really went out did a
Long run and then ate that many Cadbury cream eggs. Mind you saying that I have been known to add a couple of Km's on for a wine at night.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

I ran 37 k last week and was doing recovery runs after my recent 10k race. I start my new training plan this week for an upcoming 10 k race in early May.
Back home and into the routine again. I was in so much pain after my week off. I always forget that non movement equals my arthritis comes back to bite me, also seems to but my thyroid meds out as they seem to be calibrated to exercise. Any way I pushed through and got back on track. I didn't do my longest run as I thought I would not push it last week. I did 2x 7km runs 1x5 km run then two walks. 5 & 9 km and one swim of 2 km. I had forgotten that I had promised to do a 2km swim for Jantastic.
Anyone on here doing 5x50? I can't make my mind up and don't know if we have a team.
I took 9 days off running completely and it did me the world of good. I did do a keep fit class with my mum while I was visiting and that was such fun. The average age was probably 70 and there were about 60 in the class! Go girls ( and a few men).
Back to running last week and did 3 runs, a 5K and two 6K's. No pilates, nothing else except lots of stretching and foam rollering. I do lead an exciting life!
Purposely didn't run a 10K last week but will do this week.
Well, my running goal for this quest is now ticked off, with the help of Anniemurph, as I have run my circuit of Carsington Water. Not as far as I initially feared, though only a couple of kms under and still my longest run to date.
Weight... well, I think I'd better skip all the cream eggs I've earned.
I ran 23K last week, including a C25K virtual run, that was awesome - at this rate I'll need new shoes again soon! This week will just have a couple of runs in it, I'm getting ready to go back to France on Sunday. I'm hoping to run a lovely coastal route I've had my eye on in Spain en route - I ran it one way last year, this time I want to do it in both directions..
Hi all, very pleased to report 2x 5k, very slowly, calf/tendon is holding out, still a bit sore but improving - I'm finding its actually improving with use now. Will be aiming for 1 longer run about 7k and a 5k this week.

An amazing week for me as I ran my first Half Marathon yesterday! I'm still flying high on happy endorphins
Just had to check back and remind myself of my goals:
Start running again: Check. Did RSR on Saturday, 5k recovery run yesterday and 10k this morning.
Get back into my event schedule: Check. Wasn't quite up to Battle of Lansdown but did manage RSR, ibid.
Resume conditioning training: Check. been rocking the 5.30 P90x sessions and the abs are beginning to peep out through the flab again.
Up the nutrition, including child-friendly puds: Check - made some sugar-free, gluten-free Red Velvet cupcakes yesterday using honey and beetroot that completely fooled the kids.
Last week was a good week. Monday I wanted something quick, so I did the Speed podcast. Thursday while my daugher was at horseriding i ran up a 3k hill and back down again. So Saturday I did a nice level 5k (figured that I'd pushed things enough on Thursday).
Plans for this week - slow gentle 3k tomorrow (combined with putting up posters in our local area - will jog between locations). Thursday another hill session and then Saturday another gentle longish run.
I'm in 5 minds about 5x50 - I definately can't run on consecutive days, but I believe that a 30 minute walk is acceptable. Would force me to fit it in (and spend less time online) which could only be healthy.
Run 1 lasted a mile before I was crying and retching and feeling hopeless about the universe (in fairness, this was partly running but mostly emotional nonsense and lack of sleep and an overconsumption of tuna mayo before setting off. Onwards and upwards. And thank goodness for kind gentle husbands with senses of humour who come along on their bikes to cheerlead and are prepared to bomb home and put the kettle on and brew you coffee after a crappy run!)
Run 2 was glorious; late afternoon sun, lambs in the fields, the river glittering like a bit of French Impressionism, and without really meaning to I managed an average pace of 8m18s/mile (super quick for me) - 4.3 miles.
Run 3 was also glorious but I decided to run to the woods, which are about 3 miles away, then planned to come back. It was a beautiful day and I just got carried away by the loveliness and ran through the woods, then got lost, then rolled my dodgy ankle on a trail coming down (I think it's ok, which is good), then realised I'd been out for an hour and was a long way from home and had to run back as I'd not brought any bus fare. The upshot of which was:
*3 impressive blisters from running through muddy puddles miles from home and having to run soggy in my road shoes through woodland
*a strong multi-sensory impression of having been hit by a steamroller afterwards, including uncontrollable shivering and total exhaustion
*a reaffirmed sense of how much I love where I live - the countryside is idyllic here and I love that I can get to it without having to set foot in or on any sort of vehicle.
Significantly slower at 10 minute miles, but an accidental distance of 8.9 miles (was planning 6ish) and a total climb of 1992ft, so not too shabby either.
Excuses? Plenty... are you ready?... getting over the virus from the week before (including a lingering cough and slight breathlessness), laziness, too much work, cold weather with a bitingly cold wind, comfy couch, sleeping until 9:30 on Saturday morning (how did that happen?! I almost always wake at 6 or so without wanting to!), birthday celebrations, need I go on?
This week? Hmm. I know I'll feel better when I do get back into it, but right now it's tough seeing how it's going to happen. I'll try to go tomorrow after work...
Only one run last week. We were on holiday and I could find nowhere to run except the beach, but that was only about 100 m wide with lots of decomposing seaweed. I tried it, but it was like running round and round in very small circles! It is the first place we have holidayed where I did not manage my runs.
But we did a few walks along the coastal path - lots of high cliffs and steep climbs up and down so probably quite a good workout.
Three runs for me last week, which turned out a pretty good week. I increased my runs to 7k which I have now done twice and finished the week off by doing my first ever parkrun 5k, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was also very pleased to have stepped up to 7k, may even reach 10k yet? total distance last week was 19k. Thanks RFC and happy running everyone. 😊
Hello all, I've been keeping running, trying to build my stamina up after illness😁 The main thing I've learnt is to listen to my body. My preferred slot is to go for a run early morning, but lately have really been struggling with waking up early. So I've decided to be more flexible: if I need the sleep, I'll try to run at lunch time or after work instead. It's kept me motivated for going out every day.
Only a couple of runs from me last week, but I'm still dithering about these shoes and whether they are right or not. I'm about to go out for a 5k to see if they do any damage as Friday is my last day to take them back (for the 4th time ) It was lovely to meet up with GoogleMe as she completed her triumphant round of Carsington Water.
Run 1 was my 10% further, slow run. Well I confess that I argued with myself and did sums in my head and ended up running just 5% extra, or thereabouts. Just tired and as it was an out and back (is that what you call it?) I was worried that if I went any further I wouldn't manage to get back! Run2 was Speed which went well.
Interruption to routine by having a house guest for next 10 days so didn't get out again until yesterday. Forgot my MP3 player and started running somewhere completely new. Completely whacked and realise now that I was going much too fast. So will try and slot in a Wk9 run with Laura today if poss.
Just two runs for me last week - a 3k on Tuesday and then a 5k with my husband on Thursday. It's the first time I've run with him and I had to watch myself because he is much faster than I am (I didn't want to get pulled along and collapse at the end!) Didn't get a third run in because I was lucky enough to be in Rome for the weekend - lots of walking done there but no running! Funnily enough it was the Rome Marathon on Sunday but I didn't feel the urge to join in! Happy running all!
Loved reading everyone's posts this weeks, some huge successes and great to read about those of you who are coming back after injury too.
I managed my 3 runs again. One 3 miler with jogscotland group which involved lots of little hill runs; running exercises etc. I then did 2.5 miles with several speed intervals . Just ran to the local park then ran two sides of the football pitch fast and the following two sides at a recovery pace. Finally I did a slow 4.5 miles on Sunday, then walked the additional 1.5 miles to make it up to 10k.
Just realised I am back on miles again - when did that happen?
I did 5x50 last year but to be honest I hardly have a day when I don't walk 30 minutes (usually more than that) so it wasn't really a challenge. Don't think I'll go for it this time. Next week I hope to get to 4.8 miles on Sunday - might even go for 5 if I can make it!!
