Hi and welcome to the "How much chocolate" Quest week 6
Well here we are the final week of the Quest. It seems to of gone so fast this time. Are you all keeping a check on chocolate in and running? Hehe 🍫.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

After my long run last week again I had another crash. Everytime. Same problem not enough fuel in the tank so had a day of eating really good stuff and by Wednesday I was ready to go again. 2x 10km run and 1 x 12 k walk. I didn't swim this week as on one of my runs I got bitten by an Alsatian as I ran past, luckily no skin was broken. I caught the dog off guard, it wasent one of those dogs that was aggressive both owner and dog looked mortified at what had happened. It was I over in seconds. It's bruised a bit so I gave myself the rest of the week off swimming. I have made a mental note to be careful about how I run past dogs, I had my bright pink jacket flapping round my waist.
That bite sounds nasty RFC. It just goes to show that you can't be too careful around dogs. Anything can happen. I always get jumpy running past dogs as they are unpredictable.
I got my three runs done as per MyAsics. So, 2 fast 5K's and 1 3K interval run. The 5K's were hard going and then I realised I had entered "hard" as the pace on the plan. Oops. So changed it to "moderate" as I have 2 fast 7K's this week! Don't want to risk injury before my race.
Also managed a pilates class and lots of gardening! That must count for something as I was sweating buckets!
Happy Easter Monday everyone and good luck for the final week.
A dog made me jump this morning as it ran out at me - but fortunately for me (if not for it), it was on a chain in its kennel next to the road, so it couldn't reach me. I worry about dogs here. Quite a few strays wandering round. Glad no damage was done, RFC, and I hope you manage to get your fuelling worked out ahead of your long runs.
I didn't get my two runs in this week, awful weather, started new job and had to change the time of my run to the evening instead of morning. Only managed 1 x5.5k, and that was a struggle, not sure why. I decided I was 'tapering' (ha ha!) also had to run with no tunes as needed to practice for the race, no MP3 players allowed. Anyway, got a 7 to 8k planned for Wednesday, then it's the big 10k on the 12th (Sunday). Hopefully I'll make it, even if I have to walk some of it. fingers crossed!
Last week I was sick - and I was doing my first ever race yesterday. So, no running, just resting and drinking lots in the hope I'd get better; Which I did. By Saturday I felt OK, so Sunday, I did my race and ran 12.5k.
Sorry to hear about the dog bite, RFC, I hope it doesn't cause you too many problems.
I've been down in Norfolk this week so did a lovely Parkrun along the cliffs at Gorleston on Saturday. It was a bit chilly and a bit windy (I did wonder if I might end up being blown into the sea at one point!) but it was a really friendly run and I enjoyed the coffee after it.
As well as that, I did a nice steady run and ended up doing 7.5km! I was delighted with that as it's the furthest I've ever gone. I was slow, but it felt great and I can't wait to do another long (for me) run this coming week.
Hello. No running last week I'm afraid. My periods have been playing last week and I could hardly get off the loo. I did manage to get some swimming done over the bank holiday weekend though as went away to Jersey, and the hotel had a massive swimming pool even tried the outdoor pool in Jersey too.
Hope you all had a great Easter. This week I took part in the Easter Festival of Running with a 10k race on Good Friday and a 5k race on Easter Sunday. For the first part of the week I was 'tapering' on the final week of my 10k training plan, so I did just a couple of short 20 min easy runs. So to the races... the 10k follows one of my favourite routes which includes running along Port Erin and Port St Mary proms and also a lovely section where you run along the 'catwalk' - a footbridge which follows the coastline and feels like you are running over the sea. The 5k was a run up and back down Douglas prom. I was really pleased to manage a personal record in both races - my first sub-hour 10k at 59.41 and 5k at 27.38! For this coming week, I've decided just to go out for a few nice easy-going runs whilst I come up with a plan for a new training routine.
I tend to distinguish between a dog nip and a dog bite (not that either is OK) It's a good point about flapping clothes - Temple Grandin's book "Animals in Translation" is really interesting on this sort of thing.
Having not run for a week after achieving my quest goal, I did get out for a couple of runs but not a lot else has happened for one reason and another. Interestingly I am in quite a lot of not-usual-for-me pain today after a family walk on Sunday which was further than billed (although I didn't walk as far as the relative who was having fiendishly complex heart surgery 8 weeks ago!), and a visit to a mad place yesterday which involved a lot of steps and some odd surfaces. I've a twingeing calf and my ankles feel strained. Doesn't happen with running - and I made sure to have my usual yoga session despite being in a hotel room.
I'm not sure how much I am going to get in for the rest of the quest with visitors and other activities - although it should at least be active.
As to the weight... well, I think I shall be reasonably happy if I am not any heavier at the end of the Quest than when I started, never mind losing!
Well, last week I had a tooth out unexpectedly which stopped me running for a couple of days as it kept bleeding, but that took my weight down by a couple of pounds because I wasn't eating, result! However, I have put the wretched pounds back again although I am back running and so I have this last week to lose one of them! Even if I don't I have achieved my goal for this Quest, but it would be good to beat it
Happy running, everyone, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
Not the best week for me running wise. Did do a 5 mile run but the second run was only 2.5 miles (sorry no idea what that is in kilometres. Maybe 12??) Had guests staying these last 11 days so pretty full on with that, work and organising my husband's 60th birthday party which we had on Sunday. It was so warm the 30 of us were in the garden until 7pm, sun tan lotion being passed around and parasols up. Well, the others were - I was in the kitchen most of the time! Good fun though.
Went for a 7 mile walk around the Pentland Hills today and will be doing my 3 runs later this week.
I know, it was boiling Rona! Some guests still here but most never ventured into my pristine sitting room. I am enjoying having a cleanish house though - and windows I can see out of!
Davie has his bus pass and fair chuffed about that
Quite a good week for me. 3 x 5k runs including one with a group of "proper" runners, that I was very amazed I kept up with even though their slow jog was my normal pace! Sunday was the first run after the birthday pixies delivered my new shoes. Happy with them so far - no rubbing for 5k - increasing slowly to make sure they're OK.
More good news in that I went to docs on Monday about a lump on my back giving me probs. by the end of Tuesday that had been removed (nothing nasty about it, just in a place that rubbed on clothes), tattoo around it left undamaged AND a referral to the physio as I dropped my dodgy knee into the conversation. Gotta love the NHS.
Did Parkrun for first time this year and managed new PB of 30min58sec. Really happy with time but found it hard going. Definitely now prefer long slower runs.
Lost 2 lbs to finally reached target weight I had hoped for. It's taken me over 2years to lose 3 stone so guess you could say it's been slow and steady (ish) - bit like my running!
Our running club leader has injury so we've been on our own this week . Still managed 3 x runs but not quite as long as usual. Have 10 mile race in 2 weeks so hoping miles already banked will get me through it.
Oh and much as I love this lovely weather do find it harder to run when it's warm . Have great week folks.
Well done on reaching target weight Rona, that's fab. And - 30.58 Parkrun is marvellous. Bet you never thought you'd get to that speed when you did your first one.
I think weight thing will be an ongoing battle but in much better frame about it. Alan keeps saying I will get under that magic 30 mins but don't see it any time soon . I sometimes wonder who first thought of sub 30 as being target to aim for !!!!
Oh dear, afraid to report another poor week. Finding difficulty in getting out there. I managed 5k but that's it. And I'm sorry to be so dopey but realise now RFC that you need our mileage to get us across the country, so sorry not to have contributed much.
Oh flossieflyblow please don't ever apologise to me. The quest is personal and never any pressure, we are here to help each other. 5k. Is a great achievement please don't make it feel, like anything less than it is, Your so Important to the team.. Rfc x
All well here. Did Parkrun on Saturday, my third, which I really enjoyed. Plus, having run with my daughter for a couple of weeks, my eleven-year-old son joined us too this week. I also did my longest run to date the other day, 8K, which felt amazing! Entered the local Colour Run too. Looks like lots of fun Well done to everyone else and Happy Easter. Sorry about the dog, RFC. That must have been horrible.
