I am new to running and thought I would give couch to 5k a try. I am an open water swimmer but currently out of the water due to shoulder and neck problems. This sounds a good way to get fitter and loose some weight before I return to the water, any tips are always welcome.

Take it slowly, trust the process and prepare to become addicted ;) you'll love it!

Welcome swimcat. You are probably pretty fit already but just follow the programme, stretch after every run and take a rest day between runs. And most importantly, run very slowly. As a swimmer your breathing is probably very controlled and this will help you a lot with the running. Good luck and enjoy!

hi and welcome , trust in the program, it works, dont doubt yourself you can and will do it :D

Open swimming! How marvellous. I've always fancied a go at that. It's on my list of things to do

Running does involve your shoulders quite a bit but at the early stages of C25k I don't think it will overtax them.

Good luck with it! Have fun

I swim a couple of times a week (in an indoor pool) & run 3 times a week. I've found the breathing from swimming has helped with the running. It's definitely a different set of muscles that you'll be using. During the podcasts there are reminders about posture - 1 is to remember to relax your shoulders. It's very easy to hunch uo as you're tryimg to maintain/increase your pace & I try to relax my shoulders frequently when I'm out. In fact now I try & do that whatever I'm doing. Good luck with your running & getting back to the swimming
