Dily

I think that we would need a bit more info regarding the difficulty that you are having.

Can you describe exactly what problem you are encountering? Excessive breathlessness for example?

Are you running at a speedy pace ? The secret is a SLOW jog to build up stamina , if your going too fast & are not used to running you are going to find it difficult . The secret is a nice slow pace what you can maintain ,.

I found that I jogged at pretty much the same pace as my brisk walk when I started. I now go a lot faster, but my brisk walk has also become faster.

Thanks everyone.

Jogging at same pace as walking. Breathless, pains in chest and legs and burning type pain. I'm not too overweight 9st 4, 5ft 2. Used to run lots ten years ago, I'm 55.

I feel perhaps you need to see the GP and chat to them about pains in your chest. If it is just soreness from inhaling cold air then that can be dealt with but just to be on the safe side have yourself checked out. Let us know how you get on!

I think it could be a bit of panic. We feel daft in our running gear, self conscious, scared, cautious, apprehensive etc and I think we tense up. I know I was really quite frightened at the prospect of running, even for a minute

If you have no underlying health issues I can't see any reason why you shouldn't nail it. If exercise is new to you then it's not surprising that you are out of puff, your legs hurt, your chest is heaving. That's supposed to happen. You will ache after but you get a rest day and hopefully you'll be ready for the next run.

You don't have to run four times a week. Always take a rest day in between runs and have an extra day if you need to

I hope you can stick with it as it's life-changing

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the programme. I also feel that you need to get checked out by your doctor because your symptoms don't seem normal to me. A few aches and pains the first few times is okay as you get used to things but as this has gone on so long there may be an underlying problem that you are not aware of. It's probably nothing but always best to get checked out. Good luck and very best wishes.

I agree, definitely go to the gp and get checked out. Honestly though, it could just be that you've stressed yourself out so much that it's panic as miss w says. As for speed, for many weeks my brisk walk was faster than my jog/shuffle. Running takes more effort even at the slower pace so it will take time to build those muscles x

Hi Dily! Poor you, the GP option sounds good. Also, maybe take yourself out for some 'pleasure ' walks for a week or so, just enjoy the fresh air and what you see around you...take away any pressure , then try again....
