Hello everybody, I am new to this running, it is something I have always wanted to be able to do and after finding the app on my new phone decided to give it a go. I am on week 2 and I am so pleased that I am out there plodding away. Week 1 I found hard but enjoyable and I even looked forward to week 2! I cannot imagine running for any longer though, even though I have obviously progressed from last week, whenever I get to the walking to get my breath back I just cannot believe that I will one day be running this bit as well. I am nearly 53, only 5' 2" and just want to be fit and healthy and able to run. I am a fairly fast walker but the step up to a VERY slow jog seems almost impossible and hard on the breathing. Heyho I expect it will all come together sometime. This forum seems to be so friendly and positive I am sure I have come to the right place. A question re the technology side of things- I have the app running on my iPhone- should I use the podcasts to get some music or is there a way of playing music with Laura just letting me know when to run/walk etc. I am sure I would do better with some music playing although I must say its lovely to be out and hear the birds!

Hi there and well done on starting. I did the first run of week 4 yesterday and can't believe how far I have come in a few weeks. This forum is great too. I find it very inspiring and helpful.

I have been listening to Laura using podcasts, but I downloaded the app to my iphone too. Underneath the big green start button is a music symbol on my phone. If you already have a playlist stored on my phone you can use that to be your music to play along with the app if that makes sense.

The podcasts seem to have their own music which at the moment is fine for me. Quite cheesey but motivational enough.

Good luck with everything :)

Thanks Mum2run I will try the podcasts I think for now and get some music stored on my phone for the future. Hopefully I will carry on, I love looking at the forum, everybody is so positive and welcoming, it makes you want to go on and do better and better. I did Run 3 of week 2 today, my next run will be due on Friday, and rather than start Week 3 after what will be a two day break I may just do Run 3 once more with the hope that I will do better starting Week 3 on Sunday. I think my nerves are getting the better of me! Haha

There is a app. For the I phone now what let's you listen to your own playlists , i didn't have much joy with it though , it kept malfunctioning . Eg . Laura just disappearing so you hadn't a clue when to have a walk break . Wk 5 I tried it & ended up running for 40 mins instead of 20 ! You can try it though you may be more successful . Go to applications its nhs c25k .

Thanks Rockette, I think I will try the podcasts for now, there is no way I would run for longer than I am meant to. My run the other day for example ,- only 90 seconds and I thought I had accidentally pressed pause on my phone!

It will not allways be like that , it's amazing how it all comes together & how your body wants to carry on . Good luck & enjoy .

Hi,

I use the podcasts. Just download and go. No hassle. Congrats on getting the first week out of the way.
