I, like so many here, talk about the program all the time. I was asked last night what percentage I thought the success rate was? I would like to say 100% but I think I might be being a bit unrealistic in reality. I know its 100% of the everyone here but I suppose some people drop out and we don't hear. Would love your thoughts.
Question to everyone, regarding telling others... - Couch to 5K
Question to everyone, regarding telling others about the program.
I don't know if there's a way to come anywhere near an estimate, some users do vanish from the forum but that doesn't mean they've stopped running. I took part in a year long study to assess the benefits of parkrun (called 'SparkLE' done by Loughborough uni), it would be very interesting to do a similar study about c25k.
Hi! Interesting question...
During my 14 months since finding Parkrun I know I have got at least 5 people at work to start running through C25K, at least 3 have continued and run regularly; one joined her local running club and did a beginners course but is a on a bit of a loss of enthusiasm at present, and one gave up after a long holiday, had just restarted but then suffered a bad stroke and hasn't been back to work as yet (think he will be back after New Year). I don't think any of them use the forum though!
I talk about it and recommend it to anyone who shows any interest (and to anyone who asks about my weight loss too as they don't always know I have done C25K)
I also got my two daughters and son-in-law doing it; they all graduated, run regularly, Parkrun and have joined their local gym; and I hope to get my son into it in the New Year as he had a heart scare earlier this year at rugby training, and is a bit concerned about exercise at the mo, even though an EEG was fine (he will be running with us on Christmas Day as a warm up before breakfast!)
I'd be really interested in the answer (I like statistics :D) and all I can say is that I started with two other people, one of whom dropped out, but we have recruited another one. My friend enrolled her daughter who has gone on to run HMs. I also know of one more person who started running but I think she did a different plan - though it was us burbling about C25K that inspired her!
There have been several people on here who have posted to say that it's not for them, and obviously some have had to drop out because of injury or illness. As notbad says, there are also people who don't use the forum any more who may or may not still be running. Certainly there are a lot of names from when I graduated that I just don't see on here any more.
I wonder how we could find out. Could we put some sort of survey on here?
Also, are those who join the forum representative of everyone who starts the programme? I'd like to think the forum helps more people succeed, but there's probably no way of knowing.
I tell alot of people about it and I do go on and on about my running ( my husband is totally bored of me!). Anyway I have 5 friends running and my mum too. One friend dropped out at week 4, and my mum has taken to brisk walking instead as that suits her better. I think there are alot of people who start and stop for all kinds of reasons....
