it has been affecting me whilst walking inbetween runs as well. I've never had any problems with my knees before (i've never run before either!). Please help as I've really been enjoying running and don't want to give up. Thanks

I'm on week 3 and have been really struggling with pain in my knees when my foot hits the ground, any suggestions?
Gait analysis is the first thing I'd look at, it could be that you're wearing running shoes that aren't right for you. I had a very similar problem at around the same time and thankfully with the right shoes I was able to continue.
Definately get it checked. You might also want to see your GP if it doesn't go away soon, in case you've inadvertabtly damaged something. (In my case, we discovered an underlying knee problem, but special insoles seem to have done the trick, and I'm now on week 6. Had to rest for 3 weeks until the pain went away, and I then restarted from the beginning.)
I had exactly the same problem with pain on the inside of my knee. I suffer from fallen arches so after some internet research brought silicone arch supports and taped them to the inside of my trainers and haven't haf any further problems. I would suggest a trip to your gp to confirm but if it is your feet it's easily resolved. Good luck!
Thanks for all your replies, where would I get a gait analysis done and how much does it cost?
Hi Violet29, I agree with what has been said by the others. I had knee problems at week 5 because I was running in an old pair of trainers. I rested the knee for several weeks and once it felt better I went to Sweatshop the running store had a gait analysis and got some nice new trainers and have been OK since, that was over a year ago I still run 3 times a week 5 K and 10 K runs so the new trainers for your running style should help. If there is not a Sweatshop near you most good sports stores do gait analysis. It does not cost anything either, all part of the service and you don't have to buy trainers from the store if you think you can get them cheaper on-line or somewhere else. I did buy my trainers from Sweatshop as they do reasonable deals.
