I have been running just under 8k of late -- OK so it takes me an hour, but then I am a lady of a certain age. Yesterday I downloaded the Guardian podcasts for advanced runners -- i.e. for those who have done 5K. Ran to the podcast with absolutely dreadful music -- for a geriatric like me the repetitive pounding of hip-hop-house-garage or whatever is anathema. I am a child of the sixties and seventies, to me, Eminem is great, but beyond that no thank you. Having disappointed most of you bloggerettes with my musical tastes, I shall now tell you how upset I was to find that I had run less than 6k in 50 minutes! And no, I do not use a zimmer frame - yet. IOW I had put up with almost an hour of dreadful music that made me yearn for Julie only to find that I had run so slowly. Next long run it'll be back to Samantha and Britney Houston, much better.

Oh dear, sounds like it wouldn't be my thing either - really fast beats don't work for me. I hope that podcast was free, Delia.

music is defo each to his own - I hated Samantha murphy music bashing away in my ears- but quite like cheesy pop songs and a bit of hip hop. As for the slow run- you know you will nail it next time! And as we all say any run is better than no run. Maybe the other way to look at it - the slow endurance recovery run- after swallowing a ton of reading - these seem to be key to improving distance running......

anyway i whitter on - I really just wanted to say good morning fellow runner :-)

The word 'sadistic' comes to mind here, Delia... :-)

I've got a new alternative... you can watch your own telly on the new treadmills at my gym, plugged in with your ipod ear things. Watched a whole episode of Inspector Lynley yesterday :-)

BBC Entertainment, maybe you can get it in Italy too? My own telly gets BBC 1, 2 and World as well, it's brilliant :-)

Not any more grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

My best run so far was listening to radio in the morning, as I find they play more "energysing" music to wake up people. The good thing is that radio plays all sorts of music and there is always one you like.

My suggestion is just give it a try!

Thanks! Not sure my i-pod is "smart" enough to tune into UK radio though :-)
