body fat
I do not know how it is in GB but in Germany some Pharmacies have scales to measure the body fat quantity. Sometimes it is for free sometimes you have to pay a few euros.
Or your general practicioner can do it. I asked mine when I was there some weeks ago because I had a stomage bug. He said he normaly has the scale but an very fat patient broke it.
Maybe when you go to your doctor the next time you can ask him.
If you find a realy good gym it is part of a free trail workout where you get a plan for a correct workout special designed for your needs.

I use these scales - £16 from Argos at the moment. My records over the last 15 months show them to be pretty accurate and, more important, they give consistent readings. If you can stretch to the price, I'd recommend them.

Otherwise you could go to Boots the Chemist and use their machine - about £1 a try, I think. Or as is suggested above, get friendly with your practice nurse. If all else fails, go to a different shop each week and try out a set of scales ... cheeky, but possible. Except you'd eventually spend more in petrol / bus fares than the scales would cost, and you would get variations between different makes.
thanks for your help guys, I think I'll have to look at scales to purchase (live 12 miles from town). It's my body fat I'm concerned about rather than my weight.
