Symptoms and age

Hi John,
COPD.
Yes there is often great variability in the condition - sometimes from day to day and seasonally.
Yes it is a progressive condition but symptoms and progression can be slowed by health generating behaviours such as not smoking, exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet and living in a clean air environment. Take medication as prescribed and steer clear of lung infections.
COPD in mid 30’s is possible. It may be a form of genetic COPD eg Alpha 1 or other causes eg smoking hard drugs or an occupational cause.
Go well.

hi
I too was diagnosed with COPD in my early 30’s. At the time the doctors thought it was unusual.
They said it developed because of stress but I know where I must have got it- I was a painter/decorator and in those days the paint wasn’t that user friendly and you often painted in areas which you wouldn’t today.
However I’m now 68, i gave up smoking last year after my heart valve operation and basically I’ve had a decent life with copd. You just have to manage it.
I do have a nebuliser as well as a couple of inhalers but only use them now and then.

Hi John.
In my experience they come and go depending on time of day/season/climate, your physical/mental state at the time.
Mid 30s is possible depending on history or environmental factors. I’m 59 and was diagnosed at 40, following sarcoidosis.
I guess progression is gradual as long as you follow medical advice and keep taking the pills etc..
I’m doing pulmonary rehab exercises which helps me.
Take care.
