I don't know your personal circumstances but after 40+ years smoking I found my grandchildren my reason to stop. I feared I would not see them grow up and attend all the things they would or would not attain and to be there if and when they may need me.I think what I'm saying is find something you love more than a cigarette hanging out your mouth.

Try patchesor any substitute,not vaping.

I hope and pray you succeed, there's a lot out there to enjoy.

Hi there, sadly there is a sure bet here for you and anyone who has developed COPD and who smokes, which is that continuing to smoke will definitely hasten the progression of the disease. Giving up the smokes ( plus other good health behaviours ) will define slow the progression of the condition.

I know it isn’t easy, but so pleased that 20 years ago I ended my smoking career and am so chuffed that I did so. It didn’t happen overnight and took me a few relapses to get there. There have been many benefits since. Although I am an oxygen user these days life is better without smoking.

Can you ask for support from your surgery to stop, if indeed you do want to stop ? Wishing you well.

Good morning Andreasaw. Some find it easy to stop like myself 3 years ago after smoking killed my Mom at 62 years old. I have still ended up with severe copd but we may never know the cause of mine. There is a quit support group on this forum for smokers. I personally whenever I felt the urge for a ciggy I used to think of other things to take my mind off it and keep chewing gum handy. Because I found it helped me. Good luck. Brian

It took me until my second time of trying to do it. Find a good reputable vape store and a good start up device. Some people make the mistake of having a flavour but I can guarantee you they will have your brand cigarette alternative. You can then reduce the nicotine strength eventually down to zero. Honest 24hrs after I started was the first time for years I didn't wake up with a hacking cough. It's worth a go. 👍

My Granddaughter was 2 yrs old and asked me to stop smoking. I made her a promise and that was 13 yrs ago and I never touched a cigarette again. It was easy I threw all packets away and will power. Never looked back and so grateful as it's her Prom next year and we are planning the dress etc. My treat as she saved my life. I am grateful for every single day as if I had not stopped smoking I would Not be here today.. Good Luck xx👍💕⚘Sheila

Pick a dateChoose an aid such as nicotine gum or a patch

Gather support, both with family and online groups. (I had a "quit buddy" from a Facebook group)

Find a hand-to-mouth replacement such as toothpicks or stir stix

Have somethi g to do when you get an urge such as walk the dog or call your quit buddy

Good luck! The urges will come less and less frequently and last for shorter periods!

It seems everyone is different but I tried everything and nothing worked and one day I just said enough is enough and simply just never had another cigarette. I knew if I had another one I would be back smoking full time. I tried cutting down and spacing out the interval between cigarettes but found I just spent more and more time thinking about when I could have the next one and so they were on my mind more than ever making it just that much more difficult. Then all of a sudden I would get busy and be back smoking full time. I tried inhalers and other things but nothing worked. For me I just simply had to quit as all of the other things I tried didn’t work. I wish you lots of luck and hopefully you find something that works for you.
