Wonder if anyone can advice. Mum is 76 and has copd she copes very well and has been advised she needs oxygen at home but doesn’t want it. She hardly eats or drinks and sleeps a lot. She also has cll which is a form of blood cancer that now needs treatment. I am worried that her body will not cope without regular food and water.

I would suggest talking to her doctor about this. In the meantime, see if you can get her to drink some kind of nutrition supplement, carnation instant breakfast, boost, ensure, or even a milkshake to get some nourishment into her system?

Maybe she could just try out oxygen, say for a couple weeks, she probably would be less tired, and feel better. Does she understand if you need oxygen and don’t use it, your other organs can be affected too. She is to young to not eat or drink and sleep all the time. I’m 80, use oxygen, inhalers, walk a mile or more a day, live by myself and the only help I need is yard work. I can’t do that anymore.

Really hope your mom will give the oxygen a try.

God Bless and good luck.
