You sound exactly like me. I have been wondering if I've received a bad diagnosis. I was sick with some type of respiratory virus for 2 months my PCP sent me to a Pulmonologist he ordered a PFT and then I found out 3 weeks later from his nurse practitioner he had diagnosed me with Stage 2 COPD. I'm still pretty upset over the doctor not calling me in. I was seeing the nurse practitioner for a smoking sensation program. I have quit smoking (I haven't had a cigarette since the day she told me). Currently I just joined a gym to lose weight and get my lungs in better shape all while I am researching Pulmonologist in my area. I maybe setting myself up for disappointment but I think I either recieved a bad diagnosis or it is at least not as bad as they said.
I'm a non smoker I have asked to redo test and they wanted to wait until September but it is being done on Monday. You have done the right thing stopping smoking and getting fit. My test on the day I done it I was coughing up green from a previous infection that I don't think I fully cleared so used my inhaler before I got to docs so nurse could not test if there was and improvement after inhaler. I do feel for you. I have looked at the diseases under the copd umbrella and can't see any connections other than shortness of breath sometimes.
My doctor told me he would not retest unless I got way worse. I told him I didn't think he was the doctor for me. He was blowing me off with every question I asked and then pretty much refused a retest. I'm hoping for a better fit with the next Pulmonologist. I'm like you I have don't so much research that I've started having anxiety attacks from the information or lack thereof.
Try not to stress easier said than done just keep doing everything right. I hope u have better luck with new doc. If it helps my uncle through marriage has had it 20 odd years and he will be 60 this month. He works full time as a postman just takes inhalers and has not stopped smoking and he eats crap too and drinks every night. So there is hope for us x
Hi, glad you quit smoking. That's the best decision you could have made. I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago with mild COPD. I had smoked for 22 yrs, but quit for 23 yrs now. I wish I knew then what I know now. But there's only going forward, so I"m exercising more, drinking a lot of water & trying my best to keep my anxiety at bay. I'm praying for God's help with this cause I can't do it alone. I see that you have 4 kids. Their future will be so much better because of good choices you're making. Hope you find a pulmonary doctor that works for you & with you. I had to go through that too, but it was well worth it. Take care & God bless you. Let us know how you do. Terri
What was your FEV1 I had a Spirometry test in April after chest infection left me coughing night and day for 3 months lots of mucus .its gone now the FEV1 was 69% but the nurse and GP wouldn’t diagnose Copd said they wanted to retest in 6 months and that I should build up my fitness levels I don’t cough now but do have mucus in my throat each morning no SOB even after fast walk 2 miles so we will see what retest in Oct reads
She said moderate and I never asked think she said 70 something. I do sometime get so and infections thats why first gp I seen was testing me for adult asthma and second doc went straight copd
I get mucus too & take musinex or a generic like it so besides drinking a lot of water, that helps a lot. Hope you get improved test results or at least they don't worsen. My repeat ones are next April. Keep us posted. Terri
