Handicap parking

With my breathing getting harder every day I have been thinking about applying for a handicap parking permit. By the time I park the car at a mall and walk to the front of the store i am exhausted. Does any one have handicap parking permits and is it hard to get.

just ask your doctor to fill out a request

I do, it wasn't hard here, go to DMV or where ever you'd go to get a driver's license, they have forms for your dr to fill out and sign, you may be able to get them online.

It's not that hard to get one if your doctor agrees..

I live in Illinois So I went online for cyberdrive And printed off the form and took it to my pulmonary doctor he has to fill in the information then I mail it to Springfield and wait for my placard to come in.

Hi Gary 12345; I have handicap parking permits, my doctor did out the form for me and sent it to motor vehicles dept. That was for the hanging plaque. When decided I wanted the plates I had to go myself to the MVD and get them. My doctor has to redo my application every few years. So talk with your doctor and get them to take care of this for you.

Where do you live? Who turned you down - the doctor to prescribe it, or the DMV when you went with the Dr's certified form to get it?

You get a note from your Dr and take it to the DMV. Very easy. Get the portable one so you can take it with you when using different cars.

I have one. I just asked my doctor and she signed the form and I took it to the dmv. I had to wait a while to get it but it was worth the wait.

In Texas, you need a special prescription form from your doctor. They have 2 kinds, one is for a permanent disability (i/e COPD) and one is for short term illnesses. I chose to put handicap plates on my car, and I carry a placard in my purse when with other drivers. More convenient for me. I took my prescription form to the courthouse, where I get my registration renewed yearly. Very easy, and no questioned asked with the medical form. Now, I have more energy to shop, etc. since I don't get so out of breath and exhausted just getting from the car to the store.

I've had one for10 years just because of that. By the time I walk into a store I'm so out of breath and sometimes id have to turn around amd go home.

It was easy to get. I told my dr my shopping issues and she gave me the papers for the department of motor vehicles signed. She keeps a stack of th2en in her office to help patients. Then I just went to get it

My husband got one for each car. All we had to do is ask the Dr. to write a RX. took it to the BMV and they issued us 2 placards. It was easy. He doesn't always park in a handicap spot. Only if it is too hot or too cold. Most of the time he uses parking a bit away as his exercise for the day. Ask you Dr. I am sure they will get you what you need.

I have had one for 4 years and helps a lot! Especially good as my daughter drives to bigger shopping centers and can use it then too! Get the form from motor vehicle and take to dr for signature! I do massage therapy for my lungs , mainly my back! Can barely get out of center to car after that , for my glasses too! I don't drive my car a lot! Not hard to get! Just take back in to motor vehicle and they give you 2 one for your car and one for your purse to use for those who drive you!

I've had a handicap permit for probably 5 years, starting when I was finding myself staying home from activities I loved because of parking too far away. (For instance, I show dogs, and sometimes the venues - fair grounds, expo centers, etc. - have parking areas far away, or downhill from the buildings, etc. Between breathing and arthritic knees and hip, I just don't do stairs or hills!) I was diagnosed with COPD/asthma/emphysema about 12 years ago, and also have fibromyalgia and generalized arthritis (most all of my joints!). This is one of those things, though, that you sometimes get "looks" when you park because it's not necessarily obvious to people? Not using a cane, crutches, or walker - no casts - no obvious deformities or physical challenges. I think it's sort of like a migraine... There is no way to describe how it is - how it feels - until you have one! (Personally, I think everyone should have even just one to really know? I'll bet a lot of bosses would back off of the attitude when someone says they can't come in to work because of a migraine!) Anyway, it shouldn't be an issue to get a placard because you have a legitimate need.

I live in Ma. I downloaded the form, filled it out gave it to my Dr. to fill his part out & they sent it in & I received a notice saying I wasn't eligible. I did have to do a breathing test for them to fill it out but since I'm on ox you know that didn't go well. Actually I had a primary & went to her but when I applied the second time it was through a new primary..thanks

I've been thinking about getting them as well. I am 43 and only in stage 1, but on the days it feels like stage 3. Or with extreme temps. Walking outside is an issue. Especially in winter, WITH a half/full grocery cart. Can't load the car by the time I walk through a snow covered lot. I'm just done. Hmm maybe I'll mention it at today's check up. (Every 3 months)

Dude, get the placard! I just got mine and it's pure gold. I daresay it's the only silver lining to having bronchiectasis. And once you have one everyone will want you to go to lunch with them. 8-) I went to a Giants game the other day (I live in the States) and I was able to park right next to the ballpark with all the Teslas and other rich folks' cars. Pure gold, I tell you.
