My wife is having regular seal failures. The problem occurs mostly in the evening and at night but daytime problems have occured. The output thend to cake arround the bag inlet and does not seem to drop down the bag despite being fluid enough to go everywhere when the seal fails. There is rarely any gas prezsure in the bag. Usually happens about 2 hours after eating. Now feeding her smaller and smaller meals but that does not seem to alleviate the problem. Has anybody else had this problem? And have found a workarround?
Seal Failure on Bags: My wife is having... - Living with a Stoma
Seal Failure on Bags
It could be that she doesn't have the best type of pouch for her stoma. I regularly had leakage when I used a pouch with a flat opening. I resisted changing to a convex one as I felt it would be more noticeable, with the adhesive section being rigid, but my supplier (Coloplast - Charter)sent me enough samples to give the convex pouches a fair trial, and it's been life changing - no more leaks, even when I do get pancaking, which I think is inevitable sometimes when wearing 'ordinary' clothing, as tights or trousers do fit snugly against your tummy. I'd recommend speaking to your wife's stoma nurse or an advisor at your supplier. There's bound to be something that can help - there are so many types of pouch and accessories available. I'm able to eat what I like, provided I keep up a high fluid intake.
Hi ive had my stoma for very short time but my bags are brilliant, the company has provided me with solvent spray to release the adhesive from my skin. To date ive had no leaks etc. Contact a company called Charter. I only get pancaking round the stoma when ive not drank enough fluids. Good luck
Hi I wore my stoma bag for almost 6 months. First 2 months, I had flat bag and always leak. So I contacted Convatec Indonesia to bring me more samples that can fit for my condition. And after that I used adhesive stoma with ring. It fitted perfectly...and only change every 8 days. You can check the stoma supplier and contact them to bring more type of samples bag. I hope it help. Good luck
I've had this problem with some foods too. What she can do is after she empties the bag to be sure to leave some air in it. This way there's some space for the thicker output to fall. Also be sure she is drinking plenty of water. I've found that milk thins the output some so she can try drinking that with every meal.
