My husband has an ileostomy. We noticed it and the area around it seemed to be protruding more and more every day for the past 2 weeks.

The ostomy nurses confirmed that he has a hernia. He cannot get in to see his doctor for that for another 2 weeks. What kind of an impact will this have on him? He is scheduled to have it reversed (reconnected) in September after he has finished chemo. Will this hernia present any complications in reconnecting and his future bowel health afterwards?

I would phone up your Consultant's Secretary to see if you could get an appointment with your Consultant to let him know what has happened, sometimes people don't need surgery if it is not causing them pain. Speak also to a Stoma Nurse through the company where you get your pouches from as they will be able to offer you some support to wear to help support your hernia and make you feel a little better. I feel all your GP will tell you is to speak to your Stoma Nurse or Consultant, so I would speak to the Companies Stoma Nurse first! Hope this helps your Husband also to take it easy and not to lift anything heavy. The Hernia shouldn't cause any lasting damage but I would speak to your Stoma Nurse first.
