I'm an Ostomate since 2010, 66 years old woman and wheelchair bound . I can't do much for myself , but learned to change my colostomy pouch with one hand . Because i'm only got liquid output i don't sleep much at night for fear of accidents . How can I overcome those problems ?

Hi Dagmar,

There are thickening products which you can just pop in your pouch when you change and I believe these work very well. I've not used them but I've seen samples advertised by manufacturers and suppliers in 'Tidings' the Ostomy magazine. Do you have a Stoma care nurse I wonder? If so they would be the person to ask.

thanks powderpuff, I have tried those Items, but still struggling with the stoma output which is liquid and doesn't give me much time to change, because as soon as I change it will run into blues which I use for protection. Yes I do have a Stoma Nurse and she has tried her best. Just have persuade with the GF diet which makes at thicker and constipate me until another solution comes up

Hi,

Have you tried the Dansac 2 litre high output bags? I also have a high output liquid ileostomy and I use this product along with a catheter bag, this can be attached to the first bag by the spigot and will usual last all night unless there is a problem and your output is higher than 4 litres. I hope this helps, Regards, Shel1

thank you for this info which could be helpful at some time. I for one will try anything to make things easier at night.
