lower right abdominal pain

Hi Everyone,

I am 24 years old, and been having stomach problems since last September (6 months), I have pain in the lower right side of the abdomen and sometimes I see drops of bright or streaks of red blood in my stool, and after poo*** my anus burns and itches, I noticed that blood only appears when I do not drink a lot of water and my poop is constipated. last year I did have food poisoning in January and it was painful that was the first time I had any digestive issues, I am not sure if this is related or not but just for more background.

Finally, I did see a gastroenterologist last month, and then I had an ultrasound, a calprotectin fecal test, a blood test, and a CT scan with dye (with contrast) everything was clear and good my calprotectin test came back with 74 points and they ruled out anything major, I explicitly asked if there was any cancer anywhere and they assured me 100% that there's not anything.

I was prescribed some medicine and probiotics and it is a bit better but I still have some flare-ups from time to time, blood in my stool exists if it is a hard stool and the pain to the lower right side is still there although less.

So, I am confused about what to do & what it is, is a CT scan with contrast enough to rule out CRC? , I am considering getting a colonoscopy to be sure 100% and maybe undetected polyps could be removed.

I am very confused about what to do next, is this some lifelong IBS that I have to deal with or should I get more tests done?

Thanks

Hi Mondlee,

I want to do that just in case there is a polyp that will end up being malignant in years, But do u have any experience with CT scans with contrast and if that is enough to rule out CRC?

Thanks

I do CT that time for my small intestines I think and with contrast, that time I did a MRI for my rectum as well .

This year March 6th I will do an MRI on my small intestines and rectum together cos Colonoscopy did not and cannot scope small intestines and recently I had been having spasms on my colon causing me keep wanting to fart and like wanna poop as well.

I had my colonoscopy in October 2023 so I don’t know why the spasms and the keep farting issues

Hi bianco9685,

Thanks for posting with us. No way can they assure you 100% with the tests they've done. I have a hereditary cancer situation (Lynch Syndrome) and I get a CT with contrast and a colonoscopy annually😲. They both have their individual benefits and I get both because what one can detect the other cannot. The CT will not detect colon wall issues like small polyps or other things trying to grow. If you have not been given a definitive answer for the abdominal pain or the bleeding that comes and goes, you definitely need a colonoscopy. I even get an endoscopy every 3 years because during my clinical trial I ended up having a large ulcer causing bleeding in my stomach. CT and colonoscopy can’t see that.

So, there can be many reasons for what you are experiencing. You need good answers. The colonoscopy is best because you can take biopsies of things and have pathology check them out. The fact the CT did not get answer for your abdominal pain is good, but you still need an answer. No large mass is causing that. Your symptoms need to be investigated so you’ll get some peace of mind about them.

I wish you all the best in finding out what’s going on. Please give us an update as it is that type of information that can be helpful to others on this site as well.

Thank you,

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply, I am going back for a follow-up this Tuesday a month after going the first time and doing all the tests, I don't feel 100% better with the probiotics and the medicine I was prescribed So I will ask for a colonoscopy to get the bottom of this.

Thanks
