Best friend has cancer

My best friend has stage 4 colon cancer, and we are on opposite sides of the country. I'm so worried for him and upset, and the oncologist says he can't have chemo until he heals from his recent surgeries. I'm almost completely gutted with concern for my friend. Any support or insight would be appreciated.

I had stage 4 bowel cancer. Underwent both surgery and then Chemotherapy. I had to wait 6 weeks after surgery before I started Chemotherapy.

It was an age but after such a very long surgery to remove the tumour they have to wait and allow our bodies to recover enough to take on the Chemotherapy . It takes a lot put of you going through the next stage. It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint.

Unfortunately the doctors say it could take up to six months for him to heal.

I'm sure there oncology team have things in hand. It's so difficult to feel your doing enough to support someone from such a distance. But by just being there in any way you can will really help. Just knowing someone will chat on line or video call is a huge boost

Hi Skydreamer42,

It is so nice of you to be concerned about your friend. Is there any way you can facetime your friend and chat with him on video? There is also the Amazon Echo Show. I used that with my mom during her dementia. You can just pop on and chat face to face. Your friend doesn't have to do anything but look at it. The family can use it as well.

Just some thoughts on how to get you closer.

All my best ..

Tom
